Job summary

Nova Scotia Boatbuilders Association is seeking a Marine Service Technician in Tantallon, NS to repair power and sail vessels, refurbish and upgrade systems, and troubleshoot electrical components. The role requires diagnosing engine, propulsion, steering, plumbing and refrigeration systems and coordinating with yard staff.

Responsibilities include estimating time and materials, compiling parts lists, ordering components, and testing engines and related equipment.

Qualifications

  • MST/Boatbuilder/MMT Certification with 5 years experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Experience in varied settings—indoors, outdoors, offsite, water.
  • Must have your own tools and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect boats, decide on the work type, and provide accurate estimates on time and materials.
  • Review work orders/timelines with service writer and management to ensure timely completion.
  • Compile parts lists for work and order components with necessary details.
  • Coordinate with Yard Manager for vessel movement during repairs.
  • Test engines, transmissions, rigging, and related systems to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Quote work and assist with project management of larger refits.
