Job description

Our tailings team is looking for a Marine Advisor! This position is mainly field-based, overseeing marine operations at our base plant location.

Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma
  • A valid 60 GRT Certificate of competency issued by Transport Canada
  • Minimum of 5 years on water/marine experience
  • Clean Drivers Abstract
  • Previous leadership experience
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a valid 150 GRT Certificate of competency issued by Transport Canada
Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with Suncor’s policies, Marine Procedures, and Daily Operating Orders
  • Implement HSE policies and maintain a safe work environment
  • Provide leadership in marine areas, including overseeing contractor peers
  • Backfill for the Marine Team lead as required
  • Conduct periodic audits and inspections of marine assets to ensure compliance and participate in incident investigations and risk reviews
  • Operate watercraft for personnel transfer and moving marine assets such as dredges, barges, pipelines, and booms
  • Assist the Avian response team when required
  • Operate watercraft for launching marine anchors and assist pipeline crew with connection/disconnection processes
  • Transport materials between docks and dredges
  • Assist with pond survey and sampling programs
  • Manage ice-free channels in winter using ice-capable boats
  • Lift marine assets using cranes and assist with towing and docking operations in variable wind conditions
  • Maintain safety equipment and required certificates on marine assets
  • Ensure safe access/egress on docks and boats, including snow management in winter
Location and Other Details:
  • Located at our Baseplant in Fort McMurray, AB
  • This is a safety-sensitive role
  • Work schedule: 7 days on, 7 days off rotation
  • Relocation assistance provided for candidates outside the region
