Job summary

BC Ferries in Richmond seeks a skilled Marine Engine Mechanic with extensive experience in vessel engines, thrusters and related systems to support our Fleet Maintenance unit.

You will lead and mentor junior staff, perform repairs and tests, ensure compliance with Work Safe BC, contribute to reliable coastal service, and uphold BC Ferries’ safety standards across our operations. This role offers teamwork across ships and shore facilities.

Qualifications

• BC or Interprovincial Trade Qualification in Heavy Duty Mechanic or Millwright.
• Strong experience with vessel engines, thrusters and related systems.
• Commitment to safety and Work Safe BC regulations.

Responsibilities

• Repair and refit vessel engines and systems, including components, pumps, and valves.
• Inspect bearings, cylinders, pistons, and turbochargers.
• Repair and test fuel injection systems (pumps and injectors).
• Operate cranes, forklifts, and winches.
• Provide lead-hand guidance for new staff.
• Perform additional duties as required.

MARINE ENGINE MECHANIC

Richmond - Fleet Maintenance Unit

We are seeking highly motivated, experienced and qualified Marine Engine Mechanics, preferably with marine engine and/or thruster experience to fill a position at our Fleet Maintenance facility in Richmond.

• services, repairs and refits of vessel engines, systems, and equipment including engine components, compressors, and pumps, relief and safety valves, cylinder heads, cooler cores, clutches and engine blocks
• measures and inspects bearings, cylinders, pistons, and turbochargers
• repairs and tests of fuel injection systems, including pumps and injectors
• operates large and small mobile cranes, forklifts and winches
• Provides a ‘lead hand’ role for new employees and helpers
• performs additional duties as required

You have a thorough understanding of Work Safe BC regulations and safe working practices and working knowledge of relevant materials, tools and equipment. You hold a relevant BC or Interprovincial Trade Qualification in one or more of the following trades: Heavy Duty Mechanic, or Millwright.
