Marine Construction Health & Safety Field Officer

Job Overview

WSP is seeking a field-based Health & Safety Officer to oversee daily health and safety during marine construction projects in BC, Canada. Reporting to the Construction Manager, you will be part of the WSP field team. The position is expected to start in June 2025 and run until February 2026, with potential for extension. This role involves a rotation of two weeks on-site and two weeks off, at a remote project near Squamish, BC. Travel to the site is paid for by WSP.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with HSE legislation, regulations, standards, and company/client requirements
  • Work in the field on a rotation basis, including day and night shifts
  • Travel by boat as required
  • Promote safety awareness and set a positive example
  • Maintain project-specific safety programs, work plans, and permits
  • Serve as the primary contact for site safety activities
  • Suspend unsafe operations and notify relevant personnel
  • Identify hazards and implement corrective actions
  • Provide safety training and foster worker participation
  • Coordinate with all project stakeholders, including subcontractors and clients
  • Assess risks, review safety documentation, and conduct inspections
  • Investigate incidents and conduct root cause analysis
  • Participate in safety meetings and compile safety reports
  • Maintain safety equipment and enforce PPE use
Qualifications
  • Minimum three years of marine construction safety experience
  • Valid First Aid certificate or ability to obtain within two weeks
  • BC CSA SiteReadyBC training or ability to pass it
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Proven safety culture development skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365
  • Ability to work effectively in client and third-party environments
  • Detail-oriented with good discrepancy recognition
  • Capable of wearing PPE, including respirators
  • Valid full Class 5 driver’s license
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs on marine vessels
Compensation

Salary range in BC: $74,600 - $102,600. Final salary depends on experience, qualifications, and organizational needs.
