Job summary

WSP’s Heritage team in British Columbia seeks an Intermediate Archaeologist with marine/underwater archaeology experience to work on terrestrial, intertidal, and underwater projects spanning infrastructure, transportation, and environmental assessment initiatives. Preference for Victoria, Nanaimo, Vancouver, or other coastal locations across BC.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Archaeology or related field; master's preferred.
  • Professional archaeological consulting experience at an intermediate level.
  • Knowledge of BC Heritage Conservation Act and permitting processes.
  • Field Director status or progress toward it is an asset.
  • Experience with submerged cultural landscapes and shipwreck archaeology.
  • Comfort with marine geophysical data and GIS tools.
  • Strong writing, coordination and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Valid BC driver's license and willingness to travel BC coastal locations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support terrestrial archaeological field programs across BC and beyond.
  • Participate in marine, intertidal, and underwater investigations and analyses.
  • Assist with planning and execution of marine surveys using remote-sensing tech.
  • Collaborate with senior archaeologists to develop field programs and reports.
  • Partner with Indigenous communities, regulators, and project teams.
  • Support project management activities including scope, schedule, and budgeting.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to knowledge sharing.
  • Identify innovative approaches to protect archaeological heritage.
