Job summary

LMI Technologies, based in Burnaby, BC, seeks a Manufacturing Systems Engineer to optimize production yield and cost-efficiency across LMI parts and products. You will bridge R&D and manufacturing, resolve issues with Lean methods, and drive sustaining engineering projects to improve quality and reduce costs.

The role involves leading cross-functional teams, implementing process improvements, managing EP and ECO activities, and contributing to NPIs and transfer programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and 4–6 years in a high-tech manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and process improvement.
  • Proficiency with high-precision mechanical/electrical/electro-mechanical assembly; CAD experience.

Responsibilities

  • Resolve production issue escalations using root cause analysis and 8D methodology.
  • Identify inefficiencies and lead sustaining engineering and redesign projects to reduce cost.
  • Execute ECRs/ECOs and related engineering activities.
  • Collaborate on NPI projects and lead production transfer including BOMs and process design.
  • Develop SOPs and monitor KPI metrics for productivity and efficiency.
  • Participate in DFMA reviews and document manufacturing, serviceability, reliability requirements.
  • Adhere to company policy and applicable engineering standards.

Job description

The Manufacturing Systems Engineer is responsible for optimizing production yield and cost-effectiveness of LMI parts and products, serving as a critical interface between R&D and manufacturing. This role involves addressing manufacturing discrepancies, implementing process improvements using Lean principles, and executing sustaining engineering tasks. Reporting to the Manufacturing Systems Team Lead, this position ensures the integrity and efficiency of manufacturing operations.

  • Resolve production issue escalations by managing problem reports, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions using the 8D methodology. Facilitate status review meetings with stakeholders and act as the primary technical liaison between Operations and R&D for issue escalation and resolution
  • Identify inefficiencies, process variations and non-conformance issues within LMI’s component fabrication and production manufacturing processes. Lead sustaining engineering initiatives and redesign projects focused on improving quality and reducing costs through the application of Lean principles.
  • Execute engineering change requests (ECRs), engineering change orders (ECOs), and associated engineering activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on new product introduction (NPI) projects. Lead production transfer activities, including the development of detailed work instructions and bills of materials (BOMs), design of manufacturing processes and equipment, coordination of validation builds, and provision of manufacturing training.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor productivity and process efficiency.
  • Participate in design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA) reviews. Develop and document manufacturing, serviceability, and reliability requirements.
  • Adhere to LMI Employee Policy Manual and relevant engineering standards.
Education and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in a similar engineering role within a high-tech manufacturing environment. Demonstrated knowledge and application of Lean manufacturing principles is preferred.
  • Proficiency in manufacturing processes, particularly those involving high precision mechanical, electrical, electronics, or electro-mechanical assembly.
  • Excellent technical communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate Lean methodologies, objectives, and expectations.
  • Proficiency in product lifecycle management (PLM) document control systems, part number/BOM management, and project/task/milestone scheduling and tracking.
  • Familiarity with CAD design software (Solidworks or Fusion 360) and the ability to interpret and create technical drawings.
  • Proactive and results-oriented, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and ensure the successful execution of project plans.

Salary Range: $74,400 to $106,020 + Eligibility for Profit Sharing Program Participation (pending successful completion of probationary period and based on business performance)
