JOB SUMMARY:

The Manufacturing Process Engineer at Polyvinyl Films Inc. is responsible for designing, optimizing, and improving manufacturing equipment and processes to enhance production efficiency and ensure product quality in a blown plastic films manufacturing environment. This position combines manufacturing automation engineering and process engineering responsibilities, focusing on assessing, refining and troubleshooting production workflows. The Manufacturing Process Engineer will utilize automation technologies, PLC programming, robotics, and data-driven process improvements to achieve production goals, maintain high product quality, and reduce waste.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement process improvements in blown plastic film production, including extrusion, cooling, and winding processes.
  • Focus on maximizing throughput, reducing defects, and enhancing product consistency.
  • Continuously monitor and assess manufacturing processes to identify opportunities to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance product quality.
  • Analyze production issues, including equipment failures, defects, and process inefficiencies, providing quick solutions to minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and production teams for resolution.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret production data to identify trends and areas of improvement.
  • Prepare detailed reports on process performance with recommendations for management on optimization strategies.
  • Ensure all manufacturing equipment, including extruders, cooling units, and winders are calibrated and operating within optimal specifications.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts, and coordinate with maintenance for equipment repairs and upgrades.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs, work instructions, and process control documents.
  • Ensure documentation is up-to-date and accessible for training and compliance purposes.
  • Work with production teams to identify areas for cost reduction without compromising product quality,
  • Implement process changes to reduce material waste and energy consumption.
  • Collaborate with quality assurance, maintenance, and production teams to implement process changes, conduct pilot runs, and ensure consistent product output that meets customer specifications.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes comply with industry standards and regulations, including quality control systems.
  • Work closely with quality to resolve any deviations and ensure product specifications are met.

ESSENTIALS JOB DUTIES:

  • Lead efforts to enhance existing production processes, focusing on maximizing throughput, minimizing defects, and improving product consistency.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as cycle time, material efficiency, and product quality to assess process health and identify areas for optimization.
  • Manage engineering projects from initial design to final implementation, for process improvements and new equipment integration.
  • Ensure timely, on-budget completion of projects that also meets all quality standards.
  • Provide technical guidance during the operation of manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with production team to ensure compliance with process procedures.
  • Coordinate with quality team to ensure the product meets the required specifications.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions for deviations from quality standards.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, particularly in the blown films’ extrusion and winding processes.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve production issues.
  • Exceptional time management skills to handle multiple tasks and projects effectively.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in data analysis using tools such as Microsoft Excel, and similar software.
  • Knowledge of PLC programming, robotics, and automation systems.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in manufacturing, with a experience in plastic films manufacturing.
  • Proven experience in process improvement initiatives, troubleshooting, and working in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • 1-2 years’ experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD LT, MATLAB, or Python for process design and data analysis.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stand or walk for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. on your own.
  • Exposure to loud noise, fluctuating temperature, and dust in a manufacturing environment.
