Job description

Calian GNSS is an Ottawa-based producer of products and components used for Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS).

Position Overview

This is a new position within the GNSS Engineering Team with the goal of identifying and capturing production cost savings associated with proprietary assembly processes. It will be a key role for developing process and streamlining processes to ensure high quality and efficient production. The Manufacturing Innovation Specialist will report into the Director, GNSS Systems.

Responsibilities
  • Review production process for high volume product models
  • Develop process efficiency enhancements and coordinate process updates with training program
  • Identify process impediments where automation will offer efficiency and/or improved production yield. The recommendations will need to flow through the Engineering and Manufacturing Leadership
  • Generate and present cost analysis proposals in a concise and metrics based approach
  • Lead acquisition of automation systems and associated programming and deployment.
  • Bridge novel engineering technology with optimized production assembly techniques
  • Integrate performance logging and provide post upgrade efficiency analysis
  • Ensure process comply with workplace health and safety guidelines
  • Support production with updates and equipment maintenance
  • Strive to improve corporate green environmental impact goals
Qualifications
  • An Engineer Degree with a specialization in Electrical, Mechanical, or other specialization is required
  • 10+ years of experience in Manufacturing and Process Improvement environment
  • Visionary guidance regarding process automation who thrives with problem solving challenges
  • Extensive experience with electronic product assembly
  • Software coding with Python, C# and potentially other robotic control scripting
  • Familiar with EDA tools for custom electronic test system fixture fabrication
  • Familiar with MCAD tools such as SolidWorks for custom fixture design
  • Construct process and test automation integrated systems
  • Generate written procedural documentation
  • Personal and interactive - Can comfortably review current processes with various team members
