Job description

Job Summary:

Babcock Dairy Plant is recruiting for two full-time Manufacturing Equipment Technicians. The dairy plant produces bottled milk, cheese, and ice cream for sale in the Babcock Dairy Store and at other local retailers. This position will assist with the manufacture of all products made in the plant. Responsibilities will also include cleaning and sanitizing processing equipment, floors, and walls. They will assist with unloading trucks and moving stock between storage rooms and the production plant. Work is performed under general supervision. The ideal candidate will have mechanical skills, be detail oriented, have good written and verbal communication skills, and have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.


Responsibilities:
Works in manufacturing and processing operations. Performs a variety of tasks involved in assembling, disassembling, operating, inspecting, cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining a variety of equipment.

  • 40% Provides assistance with assembling, testing and maintaining manufacturing equipment

  • 10% Unloads the store raw materials and prepares and loads orders of finished materials for shipment or delivery

  • 15% Performs regular inspections to identify and correct equipment malfunctions, repairs and replacements

  • 10% Reads and understands technical manuals for equipment operations and maintenance

  • 10% Maintains documentation of equipment maintenance and repair procedures for future reference procedures

  • 5% Monitors and maintains inventory and required records, and assisting with retail sales

  • 5% Promotes a safe, clean, and organized facility

  • 5% Operates department delivery truck to distribute products on local UW-Madison campus and to other state agencies.

Qualifications:

Required:
- Experience working with mechanical equipment and tools
- Manufacturing experience involving production-related activities and cleaning/sanitizing equipment and facilities
- Basic mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and conversions are needed for inventory and recordkeeping purposes

Preferred:
- Experience working in a food manufacturing facility


Work Schedule:

The work hours are 6:00 am - 2:30 pm. The position may occasionally be asked to work hours in excess of the normal work shift.

Full Time: 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $22.00 HOURLY
Depending on Qualifications
The minimum salary for this position is $22.00/hour, however, final salary will depend on experience and qualifications. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and paid time off; competitive insurances and savings accounts; retirement benefits. Additional Information:

- Evaluation/Probationary Period may be required

- Employee must be able to work in a refrigerated environment, be able to lift up to 50 pounds, and stand for extended periods of time

- Technicians must be able to operate a plant truck (less than 26,000 lb. gross weight) for the delivery of dairy products on the UW Madison campus and to other local state agencies.

- Applicants must become an approved driver through UW-Madison's driver authorization process. This requires meeting established driver authorization criteria listed at https://businessservices.wisc.edu/managing-risk/driver-authorization-andinsurance/driver-authorization/.

- The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring eligibility for employment in the United States by the start of the appointment.
