Job description

We are at the beginning of a global energy transformation of a scale not seen in generations. A future low-cost, low-carbon electric grid, serving a world that electrifies everything, is within our reach.

The last remaining gap is breaking the link between electricity supply and demand. The lowest-cost, most sustainable sources of energy today come from intermittent renewable generation; but our homes, businesses and industries need electricity at the flick of a switch.

That gap can be closed by energy storage: Devices that store electricity when it is plentiful, then provide power back to the grid when it is needed. Solutions, including ones using lithium‑ion batteries, are being deployed in massive numbers to start filling this gap. But so far, none of those solutions have proven the ability to deliver power any time, anywhere, over decades of service: The level of reliability we’ve come to expect, and that the future grid will need.

This is the biggest challenge in energy today. Invinity is at the forefront of finding a solution. And we need you to help us deliver it.

Developed, manufactured and delivered by our teams in Canada and the UK, Invinity’s vanadium flow batteries (or “VFBs”) can be installed anywhere and consistently deliver electricity as needed over a service life exceeding 30 years. Moreover, Invinity’s VFBs are highly recyclable, don’t rely on rare or conflict minerals, and won’t catch fire.

Invinity is a global VFB leader, with over 190 megawatt‑hours of its batteries operational or in construction for over 82 projects across 15 countries - more than any other emerging energy storage provider. We’ve deployed the largest flow battery systems in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and the UK. Along the way we’ve earned financial support from the UK Infrastructure Bank, the U.S. Department of Energy, and some of the world’s leading institutional investors.

This role will be within our Manufacturing Engineering team, reporting to the Production Engineering Manager. You will support the day‑to‑day manufacturing and mechanical/electrical assembly of our innovative energy storage machines across multiple concurrent projects and provide the communications link to and from the Engineering team and the Operations team, so that products can be manufactured in practice from the designs provided.

Role & Responsibilities
  • Implement the controls necessary to ensure that engineering drawings and its requirements are converted to documented build processes for use by the manufacturing team
  • Manage/create/control all production documentation including product build instructions, process FMEA and management of engineering design changes into manufacturing environment
  • Produce method statements and risk assessments in line with H&S requirements
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean manufacturing principles to improve safety, quality, productivity, cost and production efficiency.
  • Define, implement and track manufacturing activities, supporting production readiness, process optimisation and capacity improvements
  • Provide hands‑on technical support to manufacturing personnel, resolving mechanical, electrical and process‑related issues through collaboration with Engineering and R&D.
  • Act as a key interface between Manufacturing, Engineering, Procurement and Project Management teams to ensure successful product delivery.
  • Identify the tools and fixtures required to manufacture and assemble Invinity products to the specifications and tolerances required
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and quality requirements within all manufacturing activities through documentation and control of records via PLM system
  • Support standardisation and best‑practice sharing across global manufacturing sites.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required
    • Relationship Management: Liaise and communicate with other manufacturing sites(UK, Canada), working closely with the global manufacturing engineering team on key deliverables, change management and improvement initiatives
    • Liaise with project management, production manufacturing, key external suppliers and service providers
    • Be an effective team member, working positively with colleagues to ensure smooth workflow with maximum output
    • Personal Attributes
      • Strong problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset
      • Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment
      • Effective communicator with strong stakeholder management skills
      • Self‑motivated, organized and results‑driven
      • Excellent Attention to detail
Qualifications and Skills
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Must be a hands‑on engineer, a ability to move fast, own outcomes, and solve problems in the production environment
  • Hold an Engineering degree/qualification or demonstrate equivalent experience
  • Strong technical engineering expertise gained within a manufacturing environment; key experience required in manufacturing engineering, process improvement, new equipment/systems implementation e.g. automation projects
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
  • IT literate
