Job description

We are at the beginning of a global energy transformation of a scale not seen in generations. A future low-cost, low-carbon electric grid, serving a world that electrifies everything, is within our reach.

The last remaining gap is breaking the link between electricity supply and demand. The lowest-cost, most sustainable sources of energy today come from intermittent renewable generation; but our homes, businesses and industries need electricity at the flick of a switch.

That gap can be closed by energy storage: Devices that store electricity when it is plentiful, then provide power back to the grid when it is needed. Solutions, including ones using lithium-ion batteries, are being deployed in massive numbers to start filling this gap. But so far, none of those solutions have proven the ability to deliver power any time, anywhere, over decades of service: The level of reliability we’ve come to expect, and that the future grid will need.

This is the biggest challenge in energy today. Invinity is at the forefront of finding a solution. And we need you to help us deliver it.

Developed, manufactured and delivered by our teams in Canada and the UK, Invinity’s vanadium flow batteries (or "VFBs") can be installed anywhere and consistently deliver electricity as needed over a service life exceeding 30 years. Moreover, Invinity’s VFBs are highly recyclable, don’t rely on rare or conflict minerals, and won’t catch fire.

Invinity is a global VFB leader, with over 190 megawatt-hours of its batteries operational or in construction for over 82 projects across 15 countries – more than any other emerging energy storage provider. We’ve deployed the largest flow battery systems in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and the UK. Along the way we’ve earned financial support from the UK Infrastructure Bank, the U.S. Department of Energy, and some of the world’s leading institutional investors.

Invinity is seeking an experienced Electrical System Designer to join its product development organization on a contract basis. In this role, you will support the development of electrical systems for utility‑scale battery products by creating and maintaining detailed schematics, wiring documentation, and related design records, and by collaborating with engineers and cross‑functional teams to improve product quality, manufacturability, and consistency.

This role will support electrical design activities by preparing and maintaining system drawings, bills of materials, and implementation documentation, while also assisting with prototype builds, verification testing, and design updates through the product development cycle.

Responsibilities
  • Support the design of electrical systems, including system architecture implementation, interconnect definition, and overall system integration.
  • Create and maintain schematics, wiring diagrams, cable and harness documentation, bills of materials, and design documentation for electrical components and subsystems.
  • Support prototype builds, electrical integration activities, and issue resolution, and incorporate feedback into design updates.
  • Assist with verification testing by preparing test hardware, documenting results, and updating designs as needed.
  • Provide technical documentation and design support for component sourcing, supplier coordination, and implementation readiness.
  • Maintain product lifecycle data, including drawings, bills of materials, specifications, and revision‑controlled design records.
Qualifications
  • Diploma, degree, or equivalent training in electrical engineering technology, electrical design, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in electrical CAD or schematic capture tools and strong capability with standard PC applications used for engineering work.
  • Strong understanding of practical electrical design principles, wiring and interconnect documentation, and design for assembly and manufacturability.
  • Ability to interpret and work from engineering requirements, test results, and system inputs to support detailed electrical design.
  • 5+ years of experience creating electrical designs, schematics, wiring documentation, or related product development deliverables for engineered systems.
  • Safety‑focused, with an understanding of applicable electrical, regulatory, and product design requirements.
Nice to Have
  • Experience working with medium- and high-voltage systems, electrical test equipment, or industrial control and power distribution hardware.
  • Experience designing or supporting battery systems, power conversion equipment, or other industrial electrical products.
  • Experience supporting supplier coordination, panel fabrication, or contract manufacturing activities.
