Full Job Description

The Position: Manufacturing Engineer (Intermediate)

We are currently recruiting for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our growing organization. Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering and Test Manager, the successful candidate will support the development of new product test systems, product processes, and support for existing products. Product and process support will range from commercial, military, to medical sectors.

Manufacturing Engineer Skills and Qualifications

  1. Technology diploma in engineering, a degree, or equivalent experience (equivalent experience is at the sole discretion of the company). A mechanical engineering degree or higher is highly preferred.
  2. Industry experience as a manufacturing engineer of 5 or more years is required.
  3. Experience in part machining is highly preferred.
  4. Experience in creating product-specific manufacturing processes is required.
  5. Programming skills in languages such as C, C++, Visual, LabVIEW (highly desired), Python (desired). 2-3 years of knowledge is preferred.
  6. Working knowledge of new product introduction requirements process is highly desirable.
  7. Experience with surface mount technology and selective wave solder process is preferred.
  8. Intermediate electronic assembly skills are required.
  9. Knowledge of thermal, mechanical, and materials is preferred. Intermediate operational knowledge is also preferred.
  10. Ability to evaluate manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs, applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials, and conferring with vendors and operators.
  11. Ability to develop manufacturing processes by studying product requirements, researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment, and conferring with vendors.
  12. Skills to improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
  13. Proficiency in dealing with complexity, informing others, leadership, supervision, hardware specifications, manufacturing methods and procedures, manufacturing quality, product development, presenting technical information, CAD, CAD/CAM circuit design.
  14. Use of DMAIC methods and iterative interrogative techniques such as 5-Why's (Six Sigma), Kanbanize, and Fishbone method.

Language Skills

  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position. Additional languages are desired.

Computer Skills

  • Ability to perform moderately complex computer tasks. Knowledge and use of MS Office (Word and Excel) are required. Understanding of Excel formulas and functions is an asset. Knowledge of networking setup and configurations.
  • Knowledge of 3D CAD (Mechanical & Electronic) is required. Skills in SolidWorks and CAmWorks are highly desired. Knowledge in Altium is also desired.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Lead monitoring, auditing, and reporting of site processes through metrics.
  2. Lead development, implementation, and control of new and existing processes.
  3. Implement user group standards across the site and support related projects.
  4. Mentor and train staff in various processes and tools.
  5. Assess new assemblies for manufacturing process integration.
  6. Support manufacturing tool design and failure analysis.
  7. Assist with new customer product introductions.
  8. Lead cost reduction projects as assigned.
  9. Support process qualifications and validations.
  10. Review and ensure customer technology requirements are met during quoting.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.
