Job summary

Canplas Industries Ltd. in Barrie, ON, is seeking a permanent full-time Manufacturing Engineer to lead capital projects and process improvements across plant operations. The role focuses on safety, quality and efficiency in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Experience with project coordination or project management.
• Working knowledge of CAD tools (AutoCAD/SolidWorks).
• Understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Effective communication across teams and levels.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between local sites.

• Develop and maintain project plans, budgets, and timelines, ensuring successful and timely delivery.
• Support plant layout design, workflow optimization, and ergonomic improvements.
• Identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, and cost performance across manufacturing operations.
• Act as a change agent, supporting the adoption of new technologies and processes.

The compensation for this role is between $71,000 - $88,500 CAD annually, based on experience and qualifications.

What You’ll Bring

Required:

• Post-secondary degree in Engineering (Mechanical or related field)
• 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
• Experience with project coordination or project management
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or similar CAD tools
• Understanding of mechanical systems, including hydraulics and pneumatics
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and levels
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between local sites as needed

Preferred:

• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or actively working toward certification
• Experience with SolidWorks or other 3D modeling tools
• Exposure to automation or capital equipment projects
• Familiarity with plastics manufacturing or similar processes
• Basic understanding of electrical systems

Working Conditions

Requires a high degree of mobility and involves considerable routine walking, standing for long periods, reaching, twisting, bending, climbing, and lifting up to 50lbs alone. Fast-paced environment where a considerable amount of sensory attention is required. Personal safety is affected by exposure to heat, odors, cold, dust, noise levels and the use of sharp tools. Facility is Semi Climate-Controlled to prevent heat stress in our employees.
