Job summary

Hexagon’s Autonomous Solutions division seeks a Manufacturing Engineer in Dowling, Ontario to support production and hardware design teams. You will drive manufacturability improvements, assist in first-time builds, testing, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality and reliability.

You will develop end-to-end manufacturing solutions, create process documentation, and collaborate with supply chain and product development to ensure DFMs meet design requirements.

  • Experience with product testing and assembly.

Responsibilities

  • Create and assist in the creation of assembly manuals and drawings.
  • Provide feedback and actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to manufacturing operations and improvement projects.
  • Develop and implement end-to-end (dock-to-dock) manufacturing solutions, owning key deliverables such as Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEAs, Control Plans, and PPAP documentation.
  • Collaborate with supply chain and Product Development engineers to conduct DFMs for custom mechanical parts.
  • Identify opportunities to improve ease of assembly, product quality, and reliability.
  • Participate in new product builds and testing to support manufacturability improvements.
  • Conduct Prototype and Pilot builds to validate new processes and resolve assembly challenges.

Overview

Hexagon’s Autonomous Solutions division is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Dowling, Ontario. Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, this role provides hands-on technical support to our Production and Hardware Design teams, driving improvements in product manufacturability, assembly efficiency, reliability, and quality through collaboration on new product designs, first-time builds, testing, and continuous improvement initiatives.

The Location: This position is based in Dowling, Ontario.

Responsibilities
  • Create and assist in the creation of assembly manuals and drawings.
  • Provide feedback and actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to manufacturing operations and improvement projects.
  • Develop and implement end-to-end (dock-to-dock) manufacturing solutions, owning key deliverables such as Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEAs, Control Plans, and other PPAP documentation.
  • Work with our supply chain and Product Development engineers to conduct rigorous Design for Manufacturability (DFM) analyses on custom mechanical parts, ensuring supplier capabilities align with our design requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve ease of assembly, product quality, and product reliability.
  • Participate in new product builds and testing to support improvements in manufacturability.
  • Conduct Prototype and Pilot builds to validate new manufacturing processes, leveraging data-driven insights to proactively identify and resolve assembly challenges, refine product design, and validate process capability before mass production.
  • Follow operating procedures, guidelines, and engineering drawings to ensure product specifications and tolerance levels are met.
  • Ensure product quality requirements are consistently achieved, including compliance with Class 3 IPC/WHMA-A-620 requirements for cable and wire harness assemblies.
  • Drive a culture of Continuous Improvement and act as a key advocate to optimize assembly, design, and business processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must Have
  • Minimum of 3+ years' experience working with mining technology in a production environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, industrial engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Safety conscious with a strong commitment to safe work practices.
  • Experience with product testing and assembly.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Ability to follow written instructions, procedures, and engineering documentation.
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite and 3D CAD software (e.g., Creo, SolidWorks).
  • Strong attention to detail.
Nice To Have
  • Quality and auditing training or certification
  • Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) knowledge and experiences
  • Proficiency in Creo CAD software.
  • Demonstrated experience with Lean Manufacturing principles (Lean bronze or Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt) certification)
  • Demonstrated practical application of advanced Lean tools (e.g., Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, 5S).
  • Direct experience with IATF 16949 standards and executing the full PPAP (Production Part Approval Process).
  • Expertise in structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, 5 Whys, A3, Fishbone).
  • Experience working in an ISO 9001 manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3 standards.
  • Experience participating in continuous improvement initiatives.
