We are seeking an experiencedManufacturing Controller to join our Finance team in Prince George, BC and provide financial leadership and business partnership to our Mackenzie manufacturing operations. Reporting to the CFO, the Manufacturing Controller will lead the financial and administrative functions supporting our sawmill and power plant operations. This highly collaborative role works closely with operations leaders, planning and operational teams, business unit finance and administration, corporate executives, and external advisors. The successful candidate will combine strong technical accounting and financial management expertise with a practical understanding of manufacturing operations. You will translate operational performance into financial insights, identify opportunities to improve costs and productivity, strengthen reporting and controls, and help leaders make informed business decisions. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance leader who enjoys being close to the operation, developing people, improving processes, and using technology to make financial information more timely, accurate, and actionable. This is a full-time position with a salary range of $121,550-$143,000.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the finance and administrative team while partnering closely with sawmill and power plant leaders to translate operational performance into financial results and actionable business decisions.
- Drive financial and operational performance by developing and monitoring KPIs, analyzing costs, productivity, recovery, uptime, energy generation, margins, budgets, and forecasts to identify risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Own manufacturing financial reporting and planning, including budgeting, forecasting, month-end close, management reporting, financial analysis, and ensuring accurate, timely information that supports operational and corporate decision-making.
- Strengthen manufacturing accounting, controls, and processes by overseeing inventory costing and valuation, reconciliations, ERP master data, financial controls, reporting procedures, and audit-ready documentation.
- Lead capital and strategic financial support by evaluating capital proposals, tracking project spending, supporting long-term manufacturing plans, managing working capital, and providing financial analysis for strategic and operational initiatives.
- Advance technology and continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to automate reporting and reduce manual processes through ERP, business intelligence, AI, and other emerging technologies while building financial and analytical capability across the team.
Qualifications
Required:
- 3-5 years of experience in a senior accounting or finance role.
- Manufacturing finance experience, with demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing costing, inventory accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Proven experience leading, developing, and mentoring finance teams and partnering with operational leaders.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, internal controls, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and capital project evaluation.
- Working knowledge of IFRS and inventory costing, with the ability to apply accounting principles in a manufacturing environment.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with ERP and business intelligence systems.
- Strong analytical, organizational, project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to use technology, automation, and AI-enabled tools to improve financial analysis, reporting, forecasting, and decision-making.
Preferred:
- Experience in forest products, sawmilling, lumber manufacturing, or power generation.
- Experience supporting complex manufacturing operations with multiple cost centers, production processes, and operational KPIs.
- Experience with capital planning, processes, project accounting, and government funding or contribution programs.
- Experience in a public company or professional assurance environment, including external audit requirements.
- Experience with business intelligence, financial dashboards, ERP optimization, process automation, or advanced analytics.
- Demonstrated interest in emerging technologies, AI, and continuous improvement.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline, combined with a CPA designation in good standing with CPA British Columbia, or an equivalent recognized professional accounting designation.
