As a Managing Consultant, Groundwater Modeler, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team (hydrology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, aquatics, and toxicology), and focus on integrating relevant functions to develop groundwater modelling studies that provide value to our clients. You will contribute your leadership, client relationships, and technical consulting skills to support the growth of ERM’s business and client base, while networking with ERM's global hydrogeology and water resources technical teams to share multi-disciplinary resources and best practices across the industry. You will serve as a representative of our company, and play a key role building our business and winning new projects. Your understanding of our business, and ability to build strong client relationships based on trust and mutual benefit will be critical.

Your responsibilities:

  • As a groundwater modeler, you will be responsible for technical execution of existing groundwater modelling project work related to baseline hydrogeological characterization and effect assessment as inputs into environmental assessment and permitting for large-scale capital projects.
  • Specific skills include:
    • Support junior hydrogeologists to execute hydrogeology field assessment and analytical and numerical modelling projects and watershed/basin-wide studies in support of water resource management.
    • Analysis and quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) of the collected hydrogeological field data and interpretation of the data to meet the objectives of the project
    • Development of conceptual site models to meet specific project’s needs.
    • Development of input data sets for incorporation into models.
    • Development of numerical models, calibration, and validation.
    • Development of pre or post processing tools to support the analysis and communication of data and results.
    • Preparation of technical reports, memoranda, presentations, and other project deliverables.
    • Working with multi-disciplinary project teams to acquire environmental permits, or any other regulatory approvals.
  • Delegate work to junior staff and serve to conduct QA/QC of the models to ensure deliverables achieve client expectations for scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
  • Provide leadership and expertise to expand our integrated water management services to our client base in Canada. Serve as a key member of the “core” technical team to drive growth in the areas of environmental impact assessment, land planning, facility siting & permitting, risk assessment and water resources management.
  • Capitalize on existing ERM client relationships to expand ERM’s profile and market share through a combination of excellence in technical delivery and business development.
  • Contribute to business development of ERM’s global impact assessment and planning service area. Identify and develop new opportunities, prepare effective technical proposals, and take an active leadership role in developing new business with new and existing clients.
  • Actively contribute to ERM’s international hydrogeology and water resources technical community. Collaborate with other ERM global practitioners to execute projects. Participate on teams consisting of multi-disciplinary impact assessment professionals from multiple offices around the global ERM organization.

Who you are:

  • 6+ years of consulting experience in hydrogeology and groundwater modelling including;
    • Design and supervision of hydrogeology field investigation programs to collect data for developing CSM (Conceptual Site Model) and numerical models. The field programs include (but not limited to) drilling and installation of monitoring wells, and pumping well, conducting slug, step and pumping tests and groundwater monitoring and sampling programs etc.
    • Reducing and analyzing slug, step and pumping test data using appropriate analytical methods to determine aquifer properties (e.g., hydraulic conductivity, transmissivity and storativity), and to estimate sustainable yields of aquifers
    • Developing CSM models and 3D numerical flow and transport models. Expertise is required to use both FEFLOW and MODFLOW packages.However, expertise only in FEFLOW and familiarity with MODFLOW will also be considered
  • A university degree in geoscience, hydrogeology, engineering, or related field. (M.Sc. or higher is preferred). Registered professional in a Canadian jurisdiction. Or equivalent experience
  • Well-developed team building, mentorship and influencing skills; unquestionable integrity; and the experience, confidence, and stature to effectively address client and business needs and challenges
  • Have a strong understanding of both physical and contaminant hydrogeologyprocesses in the context of mining, oil and gas and commercial and industrial sites
  • Good attention to detail
  • High degree of adaptability
  • Recognized technical expertise by an established reputation in the marketplace, including positive reputation with key regulators relevant to environmental approvals
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain long-term relationships with clients
  • Positive outlook, collaborative, and inspired by the success of ERM as a global company

For the Managing Consultant, Groundwater Modeler position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $97,300 – 109,500 (CAD). An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. We also may have instances where employee’s fall outside of the range based on the factors noted above.This jobmay be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/flex force employees are NOT bonus eligible).
