Job summary

EPCOR Utilities Inc. invites applications for the role of Manager, Transmission Asset Management in Edmonton, Alberta.

This senior position leads asset management for the transmission network, aligns budgets and deliverables, and coordinates with internal units and external partners to ensure reliability and safety. You'll oversee system capacity studies, develop business cases for capital projects, and support regulatory submissions while maintaining CIP and ISO standards.

Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 10 years of experience in Transmission & Substation Engineering.
  • Experience with capital projects and asset management in transmission.
  • Knowledge of CIP and NERC Alberta standards.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing system and asset operational capacities and limits based on asset condition and risk.
  • Ensuring deliverables and performance metrics for direct reports are aligned.
  • Planning and identifying budget requirements and project/work management processes.
  • Coordinating impacts and opportunities with other units and customers regarding asset life cycle planning.
  • Developing business cases for General Tariff Applications and leading responses to Information Requests.
  • Supporting ESG metrics and the Transmission Climate Change Adaptation Plan.
  • Analyzing issues and initiating continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensuring Alberta Reliability Standards and CIP requirements are followed.
  • Managing internal and external resources.
  • Making daily operational decisions on asset usage and health.

We are hiring a full-time, permanent Manager, Transmission Asset Management position working out of Edmonton, AB .

What you’d be responsible for
  • Develop ing and implement ing system and asset operational capacities and limits based on asset condition, system configuration, appropriate risk levels and coordination with other entities in Electricity.
  • Ensur ing the business pl ans and deliverables for direct reports are aligned and integrated, and include performance expectations and deliverable metrics.
  • Plan ning and identify ing the o perational budget requirements, and the provision of project s and work management processes .
  • Coordinating and communicat ing impacts, restrictions , and opportunities with other business units and customers with regards to asset con dition and life cycle planning.
  • Develop ing and writing business cases for all General Tariff Applications, lead ing the responses to all Information Requests , and act ing as subject matter expert for regulatory proceedings.
  • Support ing EPCOR’s Environmental, Social and Governance metrics and targets. Implement ing and maintaining actions from the Transmission Climate Change Adaptation Management Plan.
  • Analyzing and identify ing issues affecting operational performance and establish ing initiatives for continuous improvement on work processes.
  • Ensuring the Alberta Reliability Standards and Critical Infrastructure Protection requirements are adhered to for the Transmission business area.
  • M anaging internal and external resources ( i.e. consultants & contractors ).
  • Accountable for daily o perational decisions regarding asset usage, capacity and limitations with respect to asset health and appropriate risk levels.
What’s required to be successful
  • Professional Engineer with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • 10 years of experience in Transmission & Substation Engineering is required.
  • Experience with capital projects, and transmission system asset management; including repair s and maintenance , and capital planning and project/program execution.
  • Extensive knowledge on all associated utility operations spanning multiple business units.
  • Knowledge of Transmission and substation systems and components; P&C relaying, SCADA, Communications, Substation automation, Aerial and Underground, facilities and vegetation management, and Substation Apparatus applications.
  • Strong u nderstanding of electrical utility systems .
  • Strong understanding of CIP and non-CIP NERC or Alberta Reliability Standards
  • Understanding of financial and regulatory processes .
  • Understanding of IEEE & Electrical Utility standards .
  • Understanding of ISO 55000 aligned Asset Management practices, principles and terminology .
  • Strong capability to analyze issues, solve problems, and make effective decisions .
