Reporting to the Director of Project Development, the Manager of Transit oversees strategy development and operations for the division, aligning with the Corporate Strategy and Council priorities. The division manages infrastructure projects from long-term plans to delivery.

You will build and lead a team, develop complex projects, and collaborate with stakeholders to align projects with service improvements and Calgary’s future vision. As a management team member, you will promote an inclusive leadership approach emphasizing equity and safety, and possess political acumen, innovation skills, and outcome delivery experience. Key duties include:

  1. Providing guidance, leadership, and oversight for capital investments within the division.
  2. Serving as sponsor for transit studies and projects, developing plans considering innovations, risks, and support.
  3. Collaborating across the organization to identify opportunities, challenges, and growth strategies.
  4. Recommending capital investments and presenting information to stakeholders.
  5. Building partnerships with community, advocacy groups, and industry to support projects.
  6. Leading a diverse team, fostering innovation, and monitoring performance.

Qualifications:

Engineer:

  • A degree in Engineering with at least 10 years of relevant experience after obtaining P. Eng. designation, with current licensure as a Professional Engineer with APEGA, including practicing status.

Non-Engineer:

  • A degree in Planning, Architecture, or a related discipline, with at least 10 years of experience in engineering, urban design, or related fields.

All Applicants:

  • At least 8 years of experience leading large teams and managing complex infrastructure or planning projects.
  • A master's degree in a related field or MBA is an asset.
  • Experience in strategic vision creation and execution in complex, service-based organizations.
  • Municipal government experience in a large, multi-union environment is preferred.
  • Proven success in team leadership, managing change, complex projects, influencing, and building relationships.

Pre-employment Requirements:

  • Proof of qualifications must be provided upon selection.

Additional Notes:

All exempt positions at The City are undergoing a compensation review, which may affect union jurisdiction and salary ranges. The position is located at 133 6 Avenue SE, with a salary range of $121,267 - $209,747 depending on qualifications. The work schedule is a 35-hour week with a 3-week cycle.
