Job summary

Washington Corporations seeks an experienced Operations Supervisor to oversee railway operations across assigned areas in British Columbia. You will lead a team of Supervisors and frontline staff to ensure safe, on-time service, and optimal terminal performance.

The role requires strong coaching skills, a track record of safety and performance improvement, and the ability to coordinate with internal and Class I partners. Regional travel and a 24/7 on-call cycle may be involved.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary degree or diploma in business or operations is an asset or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5-7 years of supervisory experience, preferably within a unionized environment.
• Previous working knowledge of railway operations.
• Conductor qualification is required; locomotive engineer qualification is preferred.
• Experience conducting investigations.
• Broad understanding of safety systems.
• Demonstrated leadership to influence, coach, mentor and hold employees accountable for safety, service and performance.
• Ability to support 24x7 operations.

Responsibilities

• Accountable for safety, service, productivity and operational performance within assigned areas of responsibility.
• Develop and execute service plans that meet customer requirements while optimizing terminal and interchange performance.
• Lead the safe and efficient execution of railway operations through direction, coaching and development of Operations Supervisors.
• Coach, mentor and develop Operations Supervisors and operating employees to support engagement, performance improvement and succession planning.
• Conduct performance evaluations and support career development activities for direct reports.
• Collaborate with Operations Management and internal stakeholders to coordinate resources, resolve operational challenges and support service delivery objectives.
• Accountable for workforce planning, resource allocation, crew and asset utilization, to meet service requirements and operational demands.
• Monitor terminal and interchange performance, identifying and resolving operational constraints that impact service, efficiency, and network fluidity.
• Establish and maintain strong working relationships with Class I railway partners to support service execution, terminal fluidity and operational performance.
• Deliver results against service, safety, productivity and operational performance KPIs established by the organization.
• Support departmental initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
• Attend railway accidents and incidents within assigned areas and conduct or participate in investigations, including root cause analysis, corrective action recommendations and operational recovery planning to support the safe resumption of service.
• Participate in the on-call rotation, providing leadership during operational incidents, service disruptions, and emergency response activities.
• Day, afternoon, night, weekend, and holiday work may be required to support a 24/7 railway operation.
• Occasional travel may be required.

Working Conditions:

• Work is performed in both office and field environments, including rail yards, terminals, and customer locations.
• Required to work in and around moving railway equipment and outdoor environments in all weather conditions.
• Frequent interaction with employees, customers, Class I railway partners, and other internal stakeholders.
• Must be able to respond to operational issues, emergencies, accidents, and service disruptions as required.
• Participation in an on-call rotation is required.
• Day, afternoon, night, weekend, and holiday work may be required to support a 24/7 railway operation.
• Occasional travel may be required.
