Job summary

Nova Scotia & Eastern Railway is seeking a Trainmaster in Stellarton to supervise transportation teams and coordinate train movements within the subdivision. The role includes safety oversight, administrative duties and ensuring on-time service while managing customer expectations.

The position is permanent, full-time, with a compensation aligned to Genesee & Wyoming Canada salary grids and a focus on reliable operation and customer service excellence.

Qualifications

  • College degree in Administration and/or in Management and/or have relevant experience in the railway industry (operations).
  • Have at minimum of five (5) years of experience in the railway industry.
  • Qualification in railway operating regulations (REF) - (asset)
  • Qualification as a Locomotive Engineer is an asset.
  • Flexible with regard to working hours to see all of your teams and clients.
  • Supervisory experience is an asset.
  • Possess great flexibility to adapt in a changing environment.
  • Prepared to occasionally work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Proficient in MS OFFICE, databases and emails.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a safe working environment for the department.
  • Manages the transportation teams, plans the work to be done for the next shift, participates in the daily operation conference calls.
  • Elaborates, supports, and coordinates the operations, as well as the train movements in the assigned subdivision.
  • Perform various administrative tasks, reports and is rigorous with management of workforce planning.
  • Coordinate the activities of the transportation department while following the collective agreement in force while being responsible for managing disciplinary issues.
  • Manage the requirements of different customers in order to meet their expectations and improve the processes in place as needed, in order to exceed their expectations.
  • Provides professional customer service, respects the delivery times and advises the client of any delays.
  • Manages the work schedules and keeps them up to date (replacement and availability lists, controls the over time).
  • Sees to the employees’ safety and makes sure that accidents are reported that safety policies are respected and that there is no negligence towards the operation rules.
  • Creates different reports for company management.
  • All other related tasks.
