Job summary

Superior Propane Inc. is seeking a Manager, Tax to lead Canada tax functions from our Calgary office. You will oversee corporate returns, tax provision, and strategic planning while coordinating with cross-functional teams and external advisors.

The role requires 7–10 years of post-qualification experience, CPA In-Depth Tax, and strong knowledge of the Canadian Income Tax Act. We offer competitive compensation, benefits, and hybrid work options.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field.
  • CPA In-Depth Tax Program completed.
  • 7–10 years of post-qualification tax experience; industry asset.
  • Prior managerial or supervisory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of the Canadian Income Tax Act.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong Excel skills; BI tools (Power BI, Alteryx) a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage preparation, review, and timely filing of Canadian corporate tax returns and filings.
  • Coordinate income tax provision preparation, IFRS disclosures, and working papers.
  • Research complex tax issues to provide timely solutions to the business.
  • Lead tax forecasting and identify strategic planning activities.
  • Assist with tax projects including financing and M&A due diligence.
  • Maintain tax calculations for surplus, EIFEL, Pillar II, safe income, and ACB.
  • Manage income tax audits; coordinate data collection with authorities or consultants.
  • Communicate data and findings to key decision-makers.

Located in our Calgary office, the individual in the Manager, Tax role will report to the Director, Tax. The successful candidate will be responsible for the tax function in Canada. This position ensures accurate record keeping, developing efficient practices, tax strategies and procedures, ensuring accurate and timely filing of income tax returns, estimated payments, annual report filings and accurate reporting in the financial statements.You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance financial performance, optimize processes, and lead key business initiatives.This role requires strong technical knowledge of Canadian tax laws, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with internal teams and external advisors.

What you'll do:
  • Manage the preparation, review, and timely filing of Canadian corporate tax returns, partnership filings, foreign reporting, and all required elections.
  • Coordinating the preparation and review of the income tax provision, including IFRS disclosures and supporting working papers.
  • Researching and analyzing complex tax issues to provide timely and accurate solutions to the business.
  • Managing tax forecasting processes and identifying strategic tax planning activities
  • Assisting with tax-related projects including financing and M&A tax due diligence.
  • Maintaining tax calculations for surplus, EIFEL, Pillar II, safe income and ACB.
  • Managing income tax audits, including review and coordination of data collection, analysis and communication between tax personnel and tax authorities or external consultants.
  • Effectively communicating data and findings to important decision makers and stakeholders to drive strategic business decisions.
What you bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • Completion of CPA In-Depth Tax Program.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of post-qualification-related experience; Industry experience is an asset.
  • Prior managerial or supervisory experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of the Canadian Income Tax Act
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Self-motivated, organized and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Team player and willing to learn and continuously improve.
  • Demonstrated expertise in cross-border tax compliance for Canadian and U.S. entities.
  • Proven ability to design, implement and document tax compliance processes and controls.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong Excel skills required, experience with business intelligence tools(e.g.,Power BI, Alteryx) is an asset

Salary: $160,000 - $165,000 annually (based on skills, experience, qualifications, and geography).
