PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Manager, Tamper Training, will ensure that tamper operators on the assigned territory are trained and qualified to safely operate tamper (various models) and that there are sufficient qualified operators to meet tamper operator demands. Document, process, and track qualification/disqualification of engineering employees.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Oversees mentors assigned to assist in the qualifications process of tamper operators.
  2. Arranges and conducts field on-the-job training of tamper operators, including review of Field Guides, Operator's Manuals, Preventive Maintenance Guides, and Lock-out Tag-out procedures.
  3. Plans and implements classroom operator training programs.
  4. Provides instruction and guidance to work equipment operators on the geographic territory.
  5. Coordinates other training for tamper operators with the Technical Training group.
  6. Coordinates and arranges for vendor-supplied operation and maintenance instruction.
  7. Identifies and consults in the development and implementation of new training initiatives.
  8. Ensures that training and qualification records support the objective of qualifying all tamper operators before positions are awarded through LMS.
  9. Investigates failures or damage to machines or equipment as required and recommends remedial actions, including disqualification of tamper operators.
  10. Leads the bulletin awards process for production, including machine operator position awards.
  11. Ensures safe practices, as recommended by machine manufacturers and/or CPKC regulations, are adhered to.
  12. Administers the collective agreement in all responsibility areas.
  13. Participates in staff requirements, including new hires.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  1. High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  2. Ten years’ experience in production crews with at least five years’ experience as a Group 1 or Special Group Machine Operator.
  3. Knowledge and understanding of engineering field operations and production crews.
  4. Knowledge of tamping equipment operation and safety procedures.
  5. Knowledge/understanding of CBA related to qualification/disqualification of positions.
  6. Extensive travel required.
  7. Organizational and people leadership skills.
  8. Good verbal and written communication skills.
