Job description

The Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation raises funds for local health care across Abbotsford, Mission, Chilliwack, Hope, Agassiz/Kent and Harrison Hot Springs. We support Abbotsford Regional Hospital, Chilliwack General Hospital, Fraser Canyon Hospital, and Mission Memorial Hospital by funding the equipment, programs, and education that make a real difference for patients and families close to home.

We are a small, close-knit team with big goals, and we are growing. This new role was created to build the Foundation's most important long-term relationships.

About the Role:

As Manager, Strategic Relationships and Partnerships, you will lead the Foundation's major gifts, legacy giving, grants and partnerships with businesses, foundations and community organizations. You will connect people who care deeply about local health care with the equipment and projects that will make the biggest difference for patients in each community we serve. You will report to the CEO. As the team grows, this role will also lead a Fund Development Coordinator.

This is an in-office role with plenty of variety. You'll spend much of your time in the community: meeting donors and partners, visiting our hospitals, and attending relationship-building events.

What you'll do:
  • Build and manage a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects, and plan and make major gift asks with the CEO and board members.
  • Match donors' interests with Foundation priorities, including large projects such as therapeutic endoscopy in Abbotsford and youth mental health in Chilliwack.
  • Steward and recognize major donors, including a yearly donor appreciation event.
  • Grow the legacy giving program, including gifts in wills, life insurance and gifts of securities, and lead a yearly wills and estate planning seminar starting in 2027.
  • Build relationships with financial advisors, lawyers and estate planners across the region.
  • Find, build and manage multi-year partnerships with businesses, foundations and community organizations, such as Hofstede's Tiny Strong.
  • Build lasting partnerships with cultural and community associations across the Fraser Valley.
  • Set the Foundation's grant strategy with the CEO and lead grant applications and reporting.
  • Work with hospital executive directors and Fraser Health leaders to understand equipment and program needs.
  • Serve as the Foundation's main contact for hospital auxiliaries and service leagues, attend their meetings, keep them connected to the impact of their gifts, and plan their recognition.
  • Work with the CEO on shared projects with other health care foundations and regional partners.
  • Work closely with the Development and Events Manager, who leads events, sponsorships, and community giving, and take on sponsors and donors ready for a bigger, longer-term relationship.
  • Prepare proposals, impact reports and partner updates, and keep records accurate.
Qualifications:
  • Experience building strong relationships in fund development, partnerships, sales, business development, community work or a related field. We value transferable skills as much as direct fundraising experience.
  • A track record of building lasting relationships and closing significant gifts or agreements.
  • Strong listening skills and the ability to have thoughtful conversations about giving.
  • Clear, persuasive writing for proposals and impact reports.
  • A strong understanding of donor privacy, ethics and gift acceptance.
  • Experience leading team members is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Fraser Valley and its business and community networks is an asset.
  • A CFRE (Certified Fundraising Executive) designation, or working toward one, is an asset.
  • A valid driver's licence and the ability to work some evenings and weekends are required.
What we Offer:
  • A base salary of $70,000 to $85,000 annually, based on experience.
  • 4 weeks of vacation a year to start.
  • Health and dental benefits and a group pension plan after 3 months.
  • Meaningful work that directly improves health care in your own community.
  • A new role you can shape, on a small, supportive team.
