Job summary

Toronto Hydro is seeking a Manager, Stations (Design) to lead a team of engineers and technologists in delivering high-quality station distribution system designs. You will oversee substation capital projects, guide design drawings, cost estimates, and contractor performance, while ensuring compliance with regulations and safety standards.

The role requires a P.Eng in Ontario, 7+ years in relevant industries, and 5+ years in leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in electrical utility or similar industries with direct experience in substations.
  • Five (5) years of progressive leadership and/or project leadership experience.
  • Experience with electrical distribution utility regulation, stations equipment engineering and design.
  • Experience in safety by design and job planning for safety.
  • Ability to work in a unionized environment is an asset.
  • Valid Class “G” Driver’s License in Ontario.

Job description

Expected Salary Range: $124055 - $155069 Annually

Target Variable Performance Pay: 15%

The salary range shown above reflects the expected compensation for this position. The final salary offered will be determined based on a holistic assessment of the candidate’s experience, education, training, and alignment with the role’s requirements. For positions covered by a collective agreement, placement within the range will follow the applicable step or classification.

WORK ILLUSTRATION:

Reporting to the Director, Stations & Distribution Automation, the Manager, Stations (Design) is responsible for leading, directing, and supervising resources within the Stations department to ensure the timely, cost-effective delivery of high-quality station distribution system designs. The role provides leadership, direction, and support to technical staff and oversees the technical aspects of substation capital projects, customer connections and maintenance programs for new and existing substation and transformer station assets. Responsibilities include managing the effective deployment of resources to achieve project objectives related to scope, schedule, cost, and quality, as well as oversight of engineering analysis, design drawings, contract management, technical specifications, and technical support for field construction activities. Designs are completed, reviewed, approved, and issued in accordance with applicable engineering standards and regulatory requirements by Engineers and/or Technologists.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage project budgets, schedules, resources, and cost performance, while driving continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, technical standards, and professional engineering practices.
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture through the implementation of safety and environmental programs and initiatives.
  • Address complex technical, operational, and customer issues, providing timely and effective resolution.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with suppliers, consultants, customers, and internal partners.
  • Collaborate across departments and with external organizations to support business objectives and successful project delivery.
  • Contribute to departmental planning, strategy development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in the electrical utility/mining/automotive or similar industry, with direct technical experience in substations.

This position is based in a hybrid environment allowing for remote work two days per week, based on business needs. Employees will be required to come onsite Tuesday to Thursday. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
