Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Global Communications, Manufacturing, the Manager, Stakeholder Relations leads community outreach, stakeholder engagement, internal and external communications, corporate social responsibility, and government relations at the regional level. This role supports Methanex’s reputation and brand through strategic planning and execution of communication and engagement initiatives.
As a member of the Site Management Team, the Manager collaborates across functions and with external partners to develop and deliver effective stakeholder strategies, while continuously improving related processes, tools, and practices.
This is a temporary 18-month role, offering a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
Position Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Leads the development and execution of stakeholder relations, communications, and government relations strategies to align with corporate and regional business goals.
- Manages stakeholder consultations, community outreach, Indigenous relations (if applicable), and the regional Community Advisory Panel (CAP), ensuring compliance with legal/regulatory requirements.
- Develops and implements strategic communication plans, manages key messaging, media relations, branded materials, and crisis communications, including support for Turnaround Communications.
- Builds and maintains relationships with elected officials and public service stakeholders; monitors legislation; manages lobbying compliance; and represents Methanex in business associations.
- Leads the regional Community Giving Program and partnerships, identifying sponsorships, promoting volunteerism, and enhancing local reputation through strategic social responsibility initiatives.
- Provides oversight, mentoring, and support to team members; manages third-party consultants and contractors to ensure high-quality execution of programs and initiatives.
- Participates in the Global Communications and Stakeholder Relations teams to align regional practices with global policies, best practices, and strategic plans.
- Oversees budget planning, document control systems, and performance tracking, ensuring alignment with corporate financial and operational standards.
- Leads the planning and execution of stakeholder events, tours, outreach campaigns, and public consultations—handling logistics, vendor coordination, content development, and evaluations.
- Demonstrates Methanex’s values and leadership commitment by upholding Responsible Care principles and participating in site-level safety and stakeholder responsibilities.
Position Qualifications
Education and Professional Designation
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public/Stakeholder Relations, Government Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
Experience and Technical Skills
- 8–10 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- Proven track record in developing and executing communications, stakeholder engagement, and crisis management strategies within complex, global organizations.
- Strong experience in government relations, with well-developed political acuity and a solid understanding of regulatory environments and political processes.
- Demonstrated ability to advise and brief senior leaders with diplomacy, tact, and strategic insight.
- Exceptional project and organizational management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to assess and respond to complex issues.
- Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- High level of discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with photography, videography, and editing is an asset.
- Understands how organizations work and navigates both formal and informal structures effectively.
