The People & Culture department at Mount Saint Vincent University invites applications for the position of Manager, Faculty & Staff Relations.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

As a primary liaison between Mount Saint Vincent University and its employee groups, the Manager, Faculty & Staff Relations, plays a critical role in fostering positive labour and employee relations. Reporting to the Associate Vice-President, People & Culture, and working closely with the Vice-President, Academic and Provost, as well as the Director of Human Resources, the individual will participate in the negotiation and administration of five collective agreements and employment guidelines for non-unionized employees. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining positive relationships with union leaders, administering grievance procedures, interpreting collective agreements to managers and employees, and ensuring compliance with collective agreement obligations.

The incumbent will support the Vice-President, Academic & Provost, and the Coordinator, Academic Affairs, in applying collective agreements related to faculty recruitment, reappointment, tenure, and promotion processes. The role will also lead training and development initiatives for frontline managers, Deans, department chairs, and other leaders in managing in a unionized environment.

The Manager of Faculty & Staff Relations provides strategic advice to senior administration and ensures consistent, strategic approaches to labour relations with union partners.

What you'll need

Qualifications

We encourage you to apply if you have an undergraduate degree in a related field along with 8 years of experience working in human resources within a unionized environment. Specialization or training in labour/industrial relations is considered an asset. An appropriate combination of education and experience will be considered.

The ideal candidate will have experience interpreting collective agreements and policies, excellent interpersonal skills for building relationships at all levels, and up-to-date knowledge of labour trends and legislation. The candidate should be highly organized, proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and experienced with business enterprise systems such as Colleague and SharePoint.
