Position Overview

Recreation Programs

Reporting directly to the Director, Clinical Care, the incumbent plans, organizes, coordinates, and supervises the work and functions of the Recreation Services Department with other disciplines and departments to maximize team approach and to focus on providing quality care and service to long-term care residents.

Spiritual Health

Reporting directly to the CNO and dotted line to the President & CEO, the incumbent is responsible for all spiritual health initiatives to integrate the Misericordia Sisters mission, values and philosophy throughout the Centre. The incumbent coordinates delivery of person-centred Spiritual Health Services in Misericordia Health Centre and Misericordia Place, supportive of the spirit and philosophy of a Catholic Health facility. Promoting a culture of “caring” excellence through actions, behaviours and attitudes reinforcing best practices supporting person-centred healthcare on unit(s) and WRHA; to be consistent with the strategic priorities, policies and procedures of Misericordia Health Centre.

Reporting directly to the Director of Human Resources, the incumbent is responsible for oversight of the Volunteer Services Department. Working with the Volunteer Coordinators the Manager provides supervision and support for all areas of Volunteer Services including the gift shop.

Experience
  • Three to five years of current experience in a health-related field in recreation/kinesiology or related field, including supervisory experience required.
  • Working knowledge of health care administration and systems, and implications for spiritual health. Involvement in education and research preferred.
  • Proven ability to plan, develop, implement and evaluate a therapeutic activity program.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with volunteers.
  • Experience working in a retail setting considered an asset.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Graduate of a Baccalaureate Degree in Recreation Studies or health-related field is required.
  • Major in Therapeutic Recreation preferred.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.
  • Cultural Safety training preferred.
  • Mental Health First Aid preferred.
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training preferred.
  • Indigenous and/or cultural awareness training considered an asset.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
