Responsibilities

The Manager, Small Business Services, will lead a team of Accounting Technicians, ensuring all client accounts are accurately recorded, reconciled, and compliant with applicable laws and regulations. This role can be based in any of our four offices (Courtice, Cobourg, Lindsay, or Peterborough), with travel to the Peterborough and Lindsay offices reimbursed for mileage.

You will collaborate with the Senior Vice President – Small Business Services and clients to resolve issues and execute strategies to help our clients succeed. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading a team of accounting technicians in completing client work
  • Overseeing bookkeeping and payroll processes for multiple engagements
  • Coordinating client engagement scheduling and managing staff capacity
  • Supervising and managing department tasks to meet deadlines
  • Mentoring and developing junior and senior staff
  • Reviewing team work for accuracy and completeness
  • Managing client engagements and ensuring communication across departments
  • Providing complex bookkeeping assistance
  • Utilizing strong time management to meet deadlines and resolve client issues
  • Leading onboarding of new clients and transitioning existing clients to cloud-based solutions
  • Working with the digital team to create innovative client solutions
  • Managing project financials, including budgets, WIP, and billing
  • Developing and implementing bookkeeping policies for efficiency and compliance
  • Maintaining contact with clients and tax authorities (CRA)
  • Participating in recruitment and onboarding processes
Ideal candidate
  • Diploma or Degree in Accounting or Commerce
  • CPA designation is an asset
  • 7+ years of accounting and/or bookkeeping experience, preferably in a public accounting environment
  • At least 3 years of progressive management experience
  • Proven leadership skills in a collaborative setting
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and client service skills
  • A passion for learning and developing self and team
  • Mastery of QuickBooks Online and other cloud-based accounting applications
  • Strong project management skills, ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Ownership of client work in a fast-paced environment
  • Attention to detail and willingness to learn
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
