Reporting to the Director, Learner Services, the Manager, Security and Facility Maintenance oversees all facility maintenance, custodial services, and security for a broad range of owned and leased buildings that are located throughout Iqaluit. These include a student residence, student guest units, family residences, Nunatta’s Main Campus, associated building and facilities, and the Nunavut Research Institute.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through the completion of a certificate in facility management, property management or a related field, coursework in health and safety and crisis intervention, three (3) years of related work experience with one (1) year of supervisory experience. Class 4 driver’s license must be obtained within 6 months of employment. Current certification in WHIMIS and CPR/First Aid are considered assets.
This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in English is required for the position. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position. We encourage you to apply if you have equivalent years of education and/or experience equal to the education and experience requirements listed above.
As this is a term position for non-Inuit applicants, current indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees may be offered a competitive transfer assignment for the duration of the term if they are deemed to be the successful candidate, however this is subject to managerial approval.
