The role will execute the development and management of key data products including data models optimal architecture and deployment solutions. This role is also critical to the success of our data strategy ensuring that valuable and reliable data assets are readily available to empower our business units and drive innovation. The role will collaborate with data users in GRM Data Governance and Technology teams to define prioritize and deliver impactful data products in compliance with internal policies and industry regulations.
Overview
In this role you will work to define, deliver, and manage data products that support the organization’s data strategy and governance objectives.
Responsibilities
- Project / Product Management: articulate the product vision and convert it into a detailed backlog of actionable items; foster strong stakeholder relationships to translate business requirements into clear user stories and acceptance criteria; collaborate with technical teams to execute project plans, monitor progress, and address issues; maintain a product backlog reflecting valuable and feasible features.
- Data Modernization & Governance Advocacy: advocate for data architecture best practices, considering data mesh and cloud-based options; promote transparency, simplification, self-serve and domain ownership principles.
- Support rapid prototyping and development of ETLs and data pipelines using DBT, Airflow (Composer), Python, SQL and BigQuery.
- Collaborate with data stewards and data owners to ensure data quality, lineage, documentation, and adherence to policies and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSFI, PIPEDA).
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Stakeholder Management: maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across business units, technical teams, and executive leadership; communicate product updates, progress and challenges; deliver exceptional customer service; investigate and resolve data quality issues with stakeholders.
- Performance Measurement & Optimization: define KPIs and metrics to measure data product success; conduct data mapping and data reconciliation exercises; identify and lead opportunities to improve efficiency, standardization, and automation; proactively address roadblocks to delivery and adoption.
- Leadership & Mentorship: provide guidance, support and coaching to internal team members and downstream users; foster a collaborative, productive and positive team environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Business or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in data product management or related fields.
- Proven experience in defining and delivering successful data products in complex environments.
- Strong understanding of data management concepts including data warehousing, data lakes, data governance and data security.
- SQL proficiency for data analysis and transformation; experience with Python, Spark or similar data management languages.
- Experience with agile development methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills; ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business language.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Experience with data visualization tools (Looker, Tableau, Power BI).
- Demonstrated ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams.
- Experience in a regulated industry, particularly the Canadian financial services sector, is a significant asset.
- Strong understanding of Canadian regulatory requirements (e.g., PIPEDA, OSFI) is preferred.
- Experience building automated solutions to support reporting and analytics functions; experience with data mesh implementation is a strong asset.
- Professional experience with modern ML tooling (Scikit-learn, XGBoost, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Spark ML) is an asset.
