Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Portfolio Management, the Manager will collaborate with North American operating businesses to assess, understand, and mitigate key business risks.

This role requires a versatile skill set, as the candidate will handle responsibilities including policy placement, acquisition due diligence, claims review, and setting risk and insurance strategies. The Manager will work with insurers, Brookfield portfolio companies/subsidiaries, and senior leaders to support these initiatives.

Success in this role depends on leveraging knowledge of Property/Casualty Insurance coverages, markets, and risk management concepts to identify risks for Brookfield's core operations. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, with strong attention to detail and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support due diligence reviews of potential acquisitions.
  • Assist in onboarding new acquisitions and establishing insurance programs across a global portfolio.
  • Coordinate with in-house teams, portfolio companies, and service providers.
  • Respond to internal and external stakeholder requests, analyzing data, policies, processes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage insurance claims and advocate for the business on complex matters.
  • Analyze risk exposure trends regularly.
  • Audit existing insurance programs for assets.
  • Manage projects with brokers and third-party vendors, including data compilation, renewal strategies, and market submissions.
  • Oversee risk and control surveys, engineering reports, and third-party vendor reports.
  • Assist in placing surety bonds, obtaining insurance reports, and Certificates of Insurance (COIs).
  • Review and provide feedback on insurance provisions in third-party contracts and financing agreements.
  • Analyze policies and recommend enhancements.
  • Monitor insurance market updates and report notable trends.
  • Prepare presentations, training materials, insurance summaries, and administrative guidance.
  • Maintain accurate insurance records related to communications, renewals, loss surveys, invoicing, premiums, etc.
  • Collaborate across various operating businesses and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate claim documentation for the claims team.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree with 4-5 years of relevant experience (risk management, compliance, insurance carrier, broker).
  • Industry certifications (CIP, FCIP, CRM, CPA, CA, CIA, or equivalent) preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience with insurance organizations is a plus.
  • Strong MS Office skills; PowerBI experience is an asset.
  • Proven project management or coordination skills.
  • Strategic thinker with analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective team player with positive interpersonal skills.
  • Strong influencing skills, capable of presenting and gaining support for technical and business points of view.
  • Experience in growing organizations with evolving needs and complex transactions.
  • Willingness and ability to travel between Canada and the US.
