Job summary

Canada Life is seeking a Manager, Regulatory Compliance & Governance to lead the regulatory oversight for the Wealth & Advice business unit and its subsidiaries. You will ensure adherence to OSFI/CIRO requirements and partner with subsidiary teams on regulatory changes.

You will manage compliance risk, develop metrics, and oversee governance and conduct risk related to regulatory obligations across the wealth and asset management businesses.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive compliance experience within the financial services industry.
  • Knowledge of securities legislation/regulation is an asset.
  • Ability to interpret regulatory requirements into practical business solutions.
  • 2+ years in the business/functional area with people management experience is an asset.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; experience with compliance management systems is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advice and oversight on the development, implementation and maintenance of the compliance framework aligned with financial services regulations to ensure business alignment with regulatory expectations.
  • Manage and/or monitor the implementation of regulatory change programs across the business unit and engage stakeholders accordingly.
  • Monitor and report on remediation of compliance deficiencies including internal audit, 2nd line monitoring and risk events.
  • Provide oversight related to subsidiary governance and conduct risk management for Wealth & Advice units.
  • Complete compliance risk assessments and thematic reviews for wealth and asset management subsidiaries.
  • Develop and maintain unit-specific compliance metrics and reporting.
  • Collaborate with partners to provide practical, risk-based oversight and advice on a wide range of matters.
  • Execute testing of controls related to regulatory compliance obligations.

If so, we’re searching for the right candidate to join Canada Life’s 1B Business Risk and Control team. As the organization continues to advance its Business Risk & Control function, we are seeking a Manager, Regulatory Compliance & Governance to join the team supporting the Wealth & Advice business unit and its subsidiaries.

Reporting to the AVP, Business Risk and Control, you will play a key leadership role in ensuring the Wealth & Advice business unit’s adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies. You will provide oversight of regulatory compliance for our wealth and asset management businesses and work closely with subsidiary compliance teams.

What You Will Do
  • Provide advice and oversight on the development, implementation and maintenance of the compliance framework aligned with financial services regulations (e.g. OSFI, CIRO), as well as other applicable federal and provincial regulations, to ensure business alignment with regulatory expectations
  • Manage and/or monitor the implementation of regulatory change programs across the business unit, including working closely with wealth and asset management subsidiary compliance teams to interpret regulatory changes, assess impact on business operations, and engage stakeholders accordingly in assessing and implementing required changes
  • Monitor, oversee and report on the remediation of compliance related deficiencies, including but not limited to internal audit, 2nd line of defence compliance monitoring and assessment, quality assurance, risk events and other ad hoc reviews
  • Provide oversight related to subsidiary governance and conduct risk management as it relates to regulatory compliance management obligations associated with the Wealth & Advice business unit and its subsidiaries
  • Complete compliance risk assessments and thematic reviews to assess emerging risk themes for each wealth and asset management subsidiary
  • Develop and maintain business unit specific compliance metrics and reporting
  • Work collaboratively with business and functional partners to provide practical, risk-based oversight and advice on a wide range of matters impacting our wealth and asset management businesses
  • Execute testing of controls related to regulatory compliance obligations
What You Will Bring
  • 5+ years of progressive compliance experience within the financial services industry
  • An in-depth knowledge of applicable securities legislation/regulation is considered an asset
  • Proven ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and translate them into practical business solutions
  • 2+ years of experience in the business/functional area with people management role considered an asset
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex issues and recommend practical solutions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with compliance management systems and risk assessment tools is considered an asset
  • University degree or college diploma (preferably in finance, business, or law); or equivalent

The base salary for this position is between $102,000 - $152,000 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
