Job summary

Village Farms International is seeking a Manager, Quality Systems to lead the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the QMS across Canadian sites. You will drive GMP/GPP compliance, performance metrics, and audit readiness while guiding a two-person QA team and expanding the program as it matures.

You will own document and change control, oversee regulatory commitments, and partner with Regulatory Affairs to implement robust quality processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of QA experience in cannabis, pharmaceutical, food, or an equivalent regulated industry
  • 3+ years in a QMS ownership, lead, or people management capacity
  • Regulatory & GxP knowledge – working knowledge of EUGMP, GPP, and Cannabis Act/Regulations
  • Quality systems expertise – doc control, change control, CAPA, deviation management, training, risk management, self-inspection, and audit management
  • eQMS & ERP – working knowledge of electronic quality management systems and ERP systems

Responsibilities

  • Own the controlled document lifecycle for SOPs and quality records: authoring standards, review/approval workflows, version control, periodic review schedules, distribution, and archival.
  • Lead the change control process, including weekly CC meetings, register management, closure tracking, and escalation of stalled items.
  • Govern data integrity controls for QA-owned systems: user access management, audit trail review oversight, and electronic signature/metadata compliance.
  • Ensure documents and change control records are complete, accurate, and audit-ready at all times.
  • Ensure quality systems and processes align with GMP, GPP, and Cannabis Act/Regulations requirements across sites.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and assess their impact on QMS processes, procedures, and documentation.
  • Track regulatory commitments through implementation, in coordination with Regulatory Affairs.
  • Establish and maintain QMS policies, SOPs, and standards in alignment with applicable regulations and company requirements.
  • Analyze deviation, CAPA, change control, and audit finding data to identify trends and systemic issues.
  • Develop and maintain quality metrics and KPI dashboards; report to senior leadership on a defined cadence.
  • Support the complaint intake, triage, and trending process, closing the loop between complaint data and downstream CAPA actions.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen system performance and compliance posture.
  • Administer the training system, including curriculum design, periodic review, and compliance with training requirements for staff, contractors, and visitors.
  • Ensure quality risk assessments are current, scientifically justified, and approved by the appropriate function.
  • Verify risk controls are translated into procedures, monitoring, or CAPAs, with effectiveness confirmed.
  • Lead and mature the risk-based internal audit / self-inspection program: scope, scheduling, finding classification, closure tracking, and effectiveness verification.
  • Ensure self-inspections evaluate actual practice on the floor, in addition to document review.
  • Serve as the quality systems subject matter expert for regulatory inspections and internal/external audits.
  • Track inspection observations, commitments, and responses to closure.
  • Ensure sites are inspection-ready at all times.
  • Serve as a key contributor to eQMS implementation and configuration across sites, including URS development, validation support, and post-go-live administration.
  • Redesign existing quality processes to operate within the eQMS platform and standardize practices across sites where it improves consistency without compromising site-specific regulatory needs.
  • Build and adapt quality systems to business needs as the organization scales, working with process owners across departments.
  • Directly manage quality systems team members; provide coaching, performance feedback, and development support.
  • Assign and oversee team workload, aligning priorities with quality objectives and remediation milestones across sites.
  • Build team capability in GxP requirements, quality systems tools, and continuous improvement methodology.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience with document management systems and quality databases.

The Opportunity

The Manager, Quality Systems is responsible for the ongoing development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS) across Village Farms' Canadian sites. This role ensures quality systems and processes support GxP compliance, operational efficiency, and audit readiness, working cross-functionally with system and process owners across the organization. This role leads a team of two QA, with scope expected to grow as the QMS program matures

What You'll Do
Document Control & Change Control

What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in science, Engineering, or related discipline is required.
  • 5+ years of QA experience in cannabis, pharmaceutical, food, or an equivalent regulated industry
  • 3+ years in a QMS ownership, lead, or people management capacity.
  • Valid Health Canada security clearance, QAP or AQAP status is an asset.
  • Regulatory & GxP Knowledge - working knowledge of EUGMP, GPP, and Cannabis Act/Regulations, applied to quality system design and operations.
  • Quality Systems Expertise - document control, change control, CAPA, deviation management, training, risk management, self-inspection, and audit management.
  • eQMS & ERP - working knowledge of electronic quality management systems and ERP systems is required.
  • Validation & Qualification - working knowledge of computer system validation and equipment/process qualification principles.
  • Data Analysis & Metrics - able to analyze quality data, identify trends, build KPI reports, and communicate findings to senior leadership.
  • People Leadership - able to manage, coach, and develop team members in a regulated, fast-paced environment.
  • Technical Proficiency - proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience with document management systems and quality databases.
