We are small enough to give a variety of experience, but big enough for people to focus on specialized areas, as desired.

To support our mandate, HBA Chartered Professional Accountants is seeking a Manager in Public Practice.

As a member of our management team reporting to the partners, the manager will oversee all aspects of a file from start to finish, including:

1. Engagement planning
2. Overseeing and occasionally performing fieldwork
3. Reviewing work done by junior staff
4. Presenting client deliverables
5. Advising clients on critical business decisions

What will it take to succeed in the role?

You should have a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation and a minimum of four years of experience in a public accounting environment. Your experience may vary depending on whether you wish to specialize or be a generalist.

If you focus on assurance, you will have experience with audits, NPO audits, and expertise using CaseWare for compilation, review, and audit engagements.

If your focus is on owner-managed businesses, you will have experience with ASPE and Canadian income taxes, using CaseWare for compilation and review engagements, and tax experience including HST, trust, corporate, and personal income taxes.

Regardless of your focus, you should have a high level of integrity, initiative, and interpersonal skills to build trusting relationships. As a member of the management team, proven leadership, mentoring, coaching, and motivating skills are essential.

Our clients have diverse needs, and the ideal candidate will have:

• Experience with owner-managed businesses or NPOs
• Experience supervising and reviewing work of junior staff
• Experience with QuickBooks, Sage, or cloud accounting software like QBO, Wave, or Xero
• Experience with Jazzit is an asset
• Willingness to learn other applications
