Job summary

Crown is seeking a Manager of Property Accounting to lead the property accounting team and deliver reliable financial reporting for all managed properties in Canada. This role reports to the Controller and focuses on accuracy, timeliness, and process improvements to support property managers and administrators.

The ideal candidate will supervise accountants, drive audits, assist with budgeting, and oversee Yardi-based systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in Accounting; CPA designation in good standing.
  • 5-10 years accounting experience within a commercial real estate company.
  • Experience supervising junior or senior level accountants.
  • Experience with Yardi required.
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting practices applicable to real estate, budgeting, tenant chargebacks, and reporting.
  • Advanced Excel skills and working knowledge of real estate accounting systems.

Job description

Salary Range: $110,000.00 To $130,000.00 Annually

Position Summary

Manager, Property Accounting reports to the Controller to provide reliable and timely financial reports for properties managed by Crown on an efficient basis and provide efficient support to property managers and administrators. This position oversees and manages the property accounting team.

Responsibilities

Provide Superior Returns to our Investors through Accurate and Reliable Financial Information

  • Ensure monthly financial reports are delivered accurately and timely
  • Ensure all accounting records are kept up to date within guidelines
  • Assist with auditors requirements
  • Review of annual budgets and assist Property Managers in completion of annual budgets
  • Assist in the accounting of property acquisitions and dispositions, due diligence and preparation of statement of adjustment and post closing adjustments, as required
  • Continually monitor and review accounting processes and procedures and recommend changes as appropriate to ensure internal controls and/or efficiencies are improved to meet industry best practices
  • Responsible for CAM & Tax recoveries including year-end billing
  • Assist in capital costs tracking
  • Responsible for review of working papers
  • Assist with Yardi upgrades and implementations of new accounting software/modules
  • Support the property administration staff in the financial management of their properties
  • Developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures for accounting functions
Deliver Excellent Service to Tenants and Vendors
  • Efficient and effective communication, in a professional manner, with all employees and clients
Hire, Train and Motivate Employees and Provide Rewarding Careers
  • Supervise Property Accountants in full cycle accounting on an on-going basis
  • Train and mentor accounting staff in all aspects of property accounting
  • Handle all aspects of training, development, and continuous improvement of staff, processes, and procedures
  • Perform ongoing performance management for subordinates and seeks opportunities for their development and advancement
  • Motivate staff and promotes a positive work atmosphere
  • Foster a respectful and positive work environment for all employees
  • Provide clear direction and expectations while supporting and encouraging the team
  • Adhere and promote Crown policies to team members

Performs other related responsibilities as requested from time to time.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in Accounting, or related field; and Professional accounting designation (CPA)
  • Must maintain Canadian CPA designation in good standing
  • 5-10 years accounting experience within a commercial real estate company
  • Experience supervising junior or senior level accountants
  • Experience with Yardi required
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting practices applicable to real estate, property management, budgeting, tenant chargebacks, financial and management reporting
  • Advance excel skills and working knowledge of real estate and property management financial accounting systems and software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a polished and professional approach to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage competing priorities, interruptions, and deadlines without losing accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams;
