Job summary

Worley is seeking a Manager of Project Controls in Markham, Ontario to lead the project controls function for EPCM projects, with a focus on cost control, scheduling, and reporting. The role requires extensive experience in mining projects and strong leadership to mentor a team across multiple disciplines.

The position is based in Canada with hybrid work options (home office and on-site). Applicants should be prepared to engage with stakeholders and manage complex control processes end-to-end.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years project controls experience in EPC(M) design projects.
  • Experience creating and maintaining project progress and cost reports and teaching others.
  • Strong knowledge of IT tools used in estimating and controls (Power BI, Primavera).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all project controls for EPCM projects including cost, schedule, and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain PCP, WBS and CBS structures and ensure alignment with contract types.
  • Create and maintain project controls templates and reporting calendars.
  • Coach and mentor junior project controls staff and vendors.
  • Interface with stakeholders to resolve issues and drive timely decision making.

Purpose:

We are currently recruiting for a Manager of Project Controls .Our team includes world class experts and dynamic go-getters.This is afull-time position based in Canada.

Responsibilities:

  • Working knowledge of all project controls activities including: Cost Control, Schedule Creation and Maintenance, Management of Change, Progressing and Forecasting especially onEPCM(Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management).
  • Deep understanding of the mining industry as it related to all phases in the project life cycle and project controls.
  • Facilitates a problem solving approach with all stakeholders, understands how to identify potential issues and alleviates them and drives for win-win solutions if/when they become issues.
  • Ability to preform and/or delegate all project control tasks across the entire area of controls responsibility.
  • Displays mastery in at least one area project controls, preferably cost (but schedule will also be considered).
  • Creation and/or input into the PCP (Project Controls Plan) for active projects.
  • Assurance the PCP is being followed by other project controls and other supporting functional groups, including project management.
  • Creation and integration of the WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) and CBS (Cost Breakdown Structure) for the project(s).
  • Assurance the WBS and CBS properly account for and can be integrated into EPCM projects, especially as it pertains to different contract types with the project (lump sum, unit rate, reimbursable).
  • Creation and maintenance of the project controls RACSI (Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, Supporting, and Informed) charts.
  • Assurance the costing system is setup and maintain properly, including performing the setup/maintenance where/when required and all cost codes are appropriately funded, de-funded, and closed in a timely manner.
  • Customization and setup of any reporting templates, including: progress reports, cost reports, and ad-hock reports.
  • Overall accountability that all reporting is accurate, and identification/communication for any gaps or areas of concern in reporting to the appropriate stakeholder (i.e. Project Management).
  • Creation and maintenance of the project reporting calendar. Assurance that reporting can be and is released on-time as per the project reporting calendar.
  • Interface with all other stakeholders as required to achieve the project controls objectives.
  • Train and mentor junior project controls personnel on proper controls processes and procedures. This includes project controls from vendors and contractors that may be junior.
  • Understand the internal and external management of change processes and provide a means for change to identified, approved, and integrated into relevant systems, including: cost, schedule, and reporting.
  • Knowledge of scheduling including the decomposition of project requirements into schedule data and how the schedule interconnects into the various other systems (i.e. – cost/resource forecasting).
  • Able to modify and/or create progressing templates (i.e. scorecards) that can used by discipline leads to update and other controllers as inputs for schedule/report updating.
  • Understanding and experience how to maintain or develop Power BI will be considered an asset.
  • Expedite the resolution of any issues as they arise and elevate issues to appropriate stakeholders before they become concerns/risks to the project.
  • Ensure accuracy of coding on all daily timesheets and provide cost coding on Procurement requisitions and Subcontractor invoice.
  • Supports the functional group(s) in performance evaluations and helps carry out coaching or corrective action as required.

Work Conditions:

Home Office (Monday to Thursday in Office, Friday as remote) 40 hours per week.

Some periodic site travel may be requested.

Ability to travel and work from remote work locations at various points in the project life-cycle.

What you will bring
Technical and Industry Experience
  • 10+ years project controls experience in design and EPC(M) projects role isrequired.
  • Cost control and progress tracking experience isrequired.
  • Experience creating and maintaining project progress reports and cost reports and demonstrated ability to teach others is required.
  • General knowledge of IT programs used in estimating and project controls functions is required.
  • Computer literate in all Microsoft Office products is required.
  • Working knowledge onEcosys, Primavera and Power BIis considered an asset.
  • Project Controls experience with mining (at all phases) is considered an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Able to work under pressure on complex issues across multiple project and/or phase.
Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training
Required

For applicants based in the province of Ontario, the salary range is $153K to $180K CAD. For applicants based in the province of BC, the salary range is $154K to $183K CAD. Application of the pay band: Variation in salary is determined by factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
