Education level: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant Science or Engineering discipline (Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc.) from a recognized university; higher education is a strong asset

Job Overview

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Engineering, the successful candidate will utilize managerial and leadership skills to drive long-term revenue growth by developing isotope and waste management solutions for the nuclear industry worldwide. This includes leading a team of professionals in nuclear fields, performing technical work, and managing projects aligned with organizational strategies.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide guidance on systems conceptual design, problem solving, and technical specifications in isotopes and waste management, including hydrogen isotope processes and novel waste solutions.
  2. Support development of engineering design requirements and deliverables for isotope projects.
  3. Coordinate special studies, testing, and analyses for problem resolution.
  4. Review engineering and project packages to ensure they meet requirements and standards.
  5. Collaborate with Project Management and Business Development teams to identify opportunities and lead R&D activities.
  6. Mentor and lead junior staff, developing their capabilities in process modeling and research analysis.
  7. Present technical information to senior management and at industry conferences.
  8. Ensure activities comply with quality, environmental, safety regulations, and company policies.
  9. Stay updated on engineering advances and industry best practices.
  10. Prepare technical documents for licensing and regulatory purposes.
  11. Support projects related to tritium removal, heavy water management, and nuclear waste.
  12. Manage staff performance, set objectives, and foster a positive, inclusive work environment.
  13. Coordinate with clients, vendors, and team members to ensure project success.
  14. Communicate project status and technical information effectively.
  15. Lead process improvement initiatives and troubleshoot equipment issues.
  16. Demonstrate professionalism and escalate issues as needed.
Qualifications

We seek professionals with:

  • 8-10+ years of experience in isotope processing, storage, and analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of isotope separation principles and techniques.
  • Experience with UHV systems and chemical separation processes.
  • Excellent communication skills and safety awareness.
  • Experience in heavy water processing is a plus.
  • Fundamental science and engineering knowledge, including nuclear fundamentals, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics.
  • Ability to collaborate internationally and lead projects.
  • Project management experience is advantageous.
  • Proven research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and team leadership abilities.
  • High energy, adaptability, and integrity.
  • Ability to obtain security clearance for Ontario Power Generation.
