Job summary

Russel Metals in Sackville, NB is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead the shipping departments in a unionized warehouse. You will plan day-to-day operations, assign manpower, authorize overtime and control costs while ensuring safety and quality standards.

You will develop and coach staff, coordinate with all departments to meet production goals, and maintain the branch health and safety programs, with a focus on continuous improvement and compliance with corporate guidelines.

Qualifications

• Experience in plant manufacturing or distribution with business administration exposure.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal abilities; capable of motivating and delegating.
• Analytical, time management and organizational strengths.
• Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Lean manufacturing experience is an asset.

Russel Metals is looking for an experienced Operations Manager to become part of our team at our Sackville, NB branch.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Create a safe, positive and productive work environment.
• Provide leadership and direction to the shipping departments in a unionized warehouse.
• Identify and respond to customer needs quickly and effectively.
• Plan day-to-day operations, assign manpower, authorize overtime and control costs.
• Perform capacity planning for equipment, floor space and manpower requirements in accordance with forecasted workload.
• Maintenance of the branch quality program.
• Maintenance of the branch health and safety program.
• Assist in the development and pay back of capital expenditure requests.
• Coordinate with all departments to ensure production standards and branch goals are achieved.
• Development and coaching of employees, delegate effectively and give meaningful feedback and recognition where appropriate.
• Ensure that the business operates within corporate guidelines, and all legislative requirements.
• Maintenance of Smart Drive/ Geotab
• Responsible for serving as the Warehouse Safety Champion, ensuring compliance with all corporate and New Brunswick health and safety policies, procedures, protocols, and regulatory requirements within the warehouse.

Skills Required:

• Plant manufacturing/distribution experience, business administration or production environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills with proven leadership ability (lead, motivate, delegate).
• Strong analytical, time management and organizational skills.
• Strong planning, decision making, oral and written communication skills.
• Experienced in metals processing activities; saw cutting and oxy fuel cutting.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
• Prior experience in process improvement programs is beneficial.
• Prior experience in lean manufacturing is an asset.
