Position Summary

The Manager, Operations is responsible for running the assigned facility, focusing on profitability, efficiency, and opportunities to mentor the workforce while developing and implementing strategies for growth and best business practices within the assigned location.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for day‑to‑day operations of the assigned location and provide solutions to local business topics (customer concerns, employee questions/concerns, facility issues, etc.) and direct support for the various departments beneath this position – Engineering, Purchasing, ISO 9001, Production, Manufacturing, Accounting, Health and Safety.
  • Responsible for hiring and training of direct reports. Conduct interviews, complete job reviews, set and review professional development goals, mentor and coach team of technicians; audit performance quality and build training plans; ensure staff are motivated and productive.
  • Make recommendations for promotions, transfers, hiring, or exiting staff members.
  • Schedule work for the local team and coordinate schedules for larger jobs with other managers.
  • Apply industry knowledge to offer technical / practical options to both internal and external customers; prepare and review quotes; perform job walks as required; review test reports; audit work for quality.
  • Cultivate and maintain customer relationships with internal customers, external customers, and vendors; conduct client communication in a highly customer service‑oriented manner.
  • Responsible for reviewing jobs to ensure the job meets or exceeds profitability goals.
  • Responsible for ensuring month‑end activities are complete, ensuring reports are submitted as per company schedule.
  • In conjunction with the manager, responsible for the location budget and optimizing expenses; manage location P&L to company expectations.
  • Work with the manager to ensure continuous improvement strategic business initiatives are developed and implemented.
  • Prepare a variety of reports as assigned.
  • Work with HSE to develop effective safety records and practices to minimize the company’s exposure to potential risks.
  • Work may require flexible hours, weekends, holidays, and night work to support location business needs.
  • All work and decisions shall be conducted in strict compliance with all regulatory law.
  • Observe all safety rules and best practices; follow all company policies and procedures.
Required Experience and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience and minimum of 8 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of various industry standards such as: NETA, NEC, OSHA, NFPA, ISO 9001, CSA C22.2 No.31.
  • Thorough understanding of heavy industrial, utility, large commercial, renewable energy and ability to troubleshoot complex business issues.
  • Must be able to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.
  • Proven leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Prepared to lead and provide direction to a large workforce (30–40 people).
  • Knowledge of major electrical distribution products such as Schneider, Siemens, ABB, Eaton or equivalent – an asset.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with “Lean” manufacturing – an asset.
  • Able to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to work with various people throughout the organization – customer focused.
  • For positions that utilize a company vehicle, a valid driver’s license is required.

Travel: 0–10%

Physical Demands: Lifting to a maximum of 50 lbs without assistance or use of a lifting aid, crawling, climbing, standing for long periods of time, and working in non‑ideal conditions.
