Job summary

RESA Power is seeking a Sr. Transformer Technician to install, maintain, test and troubleshoot transformers across customer sites in Canada. The role requires inspecting equipment, performing vacuum oil filling, and commissioning with strong QA adherence.

You will mentor junior technicians, manage field projects, and maintain client relationships while ensuring safety and on-time delivery. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of transformer service experience, proficiency with high voltage systems

Job description

Position Summary

A Sr. Transformer Technician requires a qualified, service-oriented individual to perform installation, preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of Transformers. A qualified individual must be able to perform inspections, assembly, vacuum oil filling, testing, and commissioning. They must be able to manage small to large size projects with good supervisory and organizational skills. They must be self-directed and very committed to customer satisfaction. Excellent communication skills with clients, peers and management are essential.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Conduct complex transformer service operations with advanced technical skills.
  • Resolve equipment issues using extensive knowledge and experience and recommend procedural enhancements.
  • Maintain clear communication about project details, safety, and environmental concerns.
  • Mentor junior technicians in safe and effective equipment operations.
  • Lead transformer testing and troubleshooting, interpreting, and explaining results.
  • Manage all aspects of transformer service tasks.
  • Ensure all work meets Quality Assurance specifications and conduct pre-completion inspections.
  • Help in planning and coordinating field projects, managing resources, and preparing reports.
  • Maintain budget adherence for work hours and vendor deliveries.
  • Oversee the re-gasketing of transformers and create new gaskets/O-rings.
  • Ensure vehicles, tools, and equipment are in safe operating condition and perform necessary maintenance.
  • Maintain strong client relationships, prepare project estimates, expand project work scopes, and assist in negotiating extra charges.
  • Ability to walk through customers’ sites, inspect problem(s) and report problem(s) to Sales and Project Management.
  • Complete test reports in company software in a timely manner.
  • As directed, complete service and repair work at Customer location(s).
  • Must be able to work weekly and/or weekend overtime. Holiday work is scheduled as per business/Customer need.
  • Comply with all safety requirements, including proper use of personal protective equipment and operation of equipment in a safe and competent manner. Understand and meet all departmental safety objectives and goals.
  • Keep assigned work-area clean, organized, and orderly. Ensure all safety and industrial hygiene requirements are maintained.
  • Work with members of a team to effectively complete work assignment. Receive information from team members regarding customer needs and product requirements and utilize this information to perform one’s function.
Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required and At least 5 years of experience in related field.
  • Proven multitasking ability, managing priorities, and supervising team activities.
  • Skilled in the assembly, maintenance, and troubleshooting of transformers and related accessories.
  • Interpret work scope, drawings, diagrams, and technical documents proficiently.
  • Operate transformer oil processing equipment with complete documentation.
  • Support testing of transformers and accessories, documenting results proficiently.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and online tools.
  • Extensive experience and strong industrial wiring and troubleshooting skills.
  • Manage vehicle and equipment maintenance.
  • Effective communication skills and professional client interaction.
  • Collaborative, capable of working effectively both in teams and independently.
  • Strong background and experience in most types of high voltage equipment through the 230 kV class.
  • For positions that utilize a company vehicle and Construction Equipment, will be required to have a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Willingness and ability to travel (min. 85% travel)

Additional Information

Type: Full-time

Travel: 85% - 100%

Pay: $55-65/hour

Working Environment

Employee will be exposed to:

  • Extensive travel
  • Emergency call back procedures twenty-four hours a day. Required to work rotating shifts, which includes evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Energized electrical work on equipment or systems operating at greater than 600 volts; extremely hazardous environments with risk of electrocution

  • May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 100 pounds.
  • Adequate olfactory and auditory abilities.
