What will you be doing!
- Providing oversight and mentoring to direct reports.
- Collaborating and facilitating discussions to support the Radiation Protection (RP)/waste/radiation safety aspects of SBWRS with the project team.
- Facilitating technical discussions with CNL groups (WL Facility Authority (FA), licensing, RP, waste, criticality safety) to discuss technical concerns, including identification of risks and development of mitigation plans.
- Communicating with external stakeholders to address any project-specific questions.
- Assigning technical work identified from discussions with SBWRS project, CNL groups, and external stakeholders to direct reports.
- Providing the necessary leadership and oversight to new activities, projects and facilities planned for the Branch.
- Ensuring the waste management support activities and facilities are available as required to support CNL's operations, meeting all regulatory and business objectives, including risk and liability reduction.
- Ensuring that adequate strategic and operational planning is carried out in a timely manner.
- Contributing to the business and strategic planning of the Division and the Environmental Remediation Management (ERM) business line.
- Identifying, defining and applying industry best practices as part of continuous improvement responsibilities.
- Implementing, maintaining and sustaining appropriate quality programs and standards in all aspects of the Branch's activities.

What we are looking for:
- Education
- Bachelor's in Engineering or Science from a University of recognized standing.
- Health Physicist accreditation an asset.
- An advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D. in Science, Engineering, or Environmental Sciences) is a significant asset.
- Membership in a professional radiation protection organization or qualification for membership in such an organization is an asset.
- Advanced training or certification in project management is an asset.
- Completion of the Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) training course is an asset.
- Experience
- Minimum of 15-20 years' experience in the nuclear industry, with a focus on radiation protection or radioactive waste management.
- Three to five (3-5) years in a leadership role, managing complex projects and strategic planning initiatives.
- Significant experience in strategy development and strategic planning for managing legacy nuclear liabilities.
- Significant experience in technical evaluations and planning, preferably related to the lifecycle management of radioactive waste.
- Significant experience in making independent, responsible decisions and serving as a technical authority.
- Significant experience in collecting, analyzing, and organizing complex data sets to make recommendations to resolve complex challenges.

- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Understanding of industrial operations, safety codes and best practices.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and documents.
- Knowledge of international codes and practices applicable to radioactive waste management is an asset.
- Knowledge of radiation protection requirements and practices.
- Knowledge of Emergency Preparedness programs and Emergency Response procedures.
- Knowledge of Nuclear Criticality safety requirements and practices.
- Knowledge of Operational Quality Assurance.
- Demonstrates responsibility and is accountable for accurately handling the details associated with one’s work.
- Ability to adapt to a changing environment and respond with initiative.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to maintain successful working relations at all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders.
- Well-developed negotiation and influencing skills to achieve successful business outcomes.

- Good understanding of strategic planning, operational planning, financial management, human resources, and nuclear and non-nuclear operational excellence.

- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Level 2 Secret requires a minimum of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions:
- We have a compressed work week, which consists of a four-day work week and ten hours a day, starting at 6 am.
- Must possess the physical agility necessary to perform all aspects of the work that involve bending, lifting and mobility.
- Must be capable of wearing and working in protective clothing and using equipment as required.
- Frequent travel to the Cambridge, Ontario site is required.
- Regularly planned requirements for on-site presence, including site walk-downs, tours, and presentations.
