Your role:

Quality Assurance:

  • Review client deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting
    standards and regulations prior to release
  • Develop, update and communicate internal policies to ensure compliance with the firm’s
    System of Quality Management, industry standards and regulations.
  • Train new hires on the System of Quality Management
  • Conduct internal inspections of assurance and other services client engagements files for
    compliance as part of our annual monitoring including communication of results
  • Coordinate with Baker Tilly Canada Professional Practice to utilize national resources and
    implement updates to templates, training, and standards.


Standards Compliance:

  • Stay updated with changes in regulatory requirements, professional standards, and best
    practices within the industry.
  • Ensure that the firm’s engagements are consistent with applicable Canadian accounting
    standards, and relevant local regulations. Experience with the following accounting
    frameworks is ideal: Canadian accounting standards for private enterprises and Canadian
    accounting standards for not-for profit organizations.
  • Conduct training sessions for staff on industry standards, emerging trends, and firm-specific
    quality control processes.
  • Assist in coordinating Baker Tilly national peer file reviews and tr-annual CPA Alberta
    inspections.
  • Assist is collating results of reviews and practice inspections and communication findings to
    the partners
  • Assist in developing and implementing action plans that may arise from these reviews and
    inspections including re-training, as necessary, for the firm.
  • Maintenance of Baker Tilly Templates (Caseware) and aid in the rollout of new versions.

Training and Development:

  • Support the People & Culture Team, Training Committee and Managers in the development
    of technical internal training programs relating to standard changes and any identified
    findings during the System of Quality Management review.
  • Coordinate external sessions undertaken by partners and staff, including those organized by


Baker Tilly National:

  • Provide coaching and feedback on quality control and technical aspects of engagements.
  • Collaborate with external training providers, industry associations, and regulatory bodies.
  • Assist with the administering of Elevate (our Learning Management System),
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to create content that addresses technical skills,
    industry knowledge and professional development needs. Develop and maintain knowledge
    library for the firm including standardized notes to the financial statements and guidance
    application of the new accounting and assurance pronouncements


What you bring to the table:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA, CA, or an internationally trained accountant working towards the CPA designation.
  • Expertise in assurance engagements (review and audit) and financial statement disclosures.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian accounting standards, regulations, and ethical guidelines.
  • Minimum 5 years of public accounting experience with technical skills for accounting,
    accounting and financial statement disclosure.

Technical Skills:

  • Experience in implementing and administering learning management systems (LMS) is an
    asset.
  • Experience with CaseWare, Practice Engine and Karbon are considered an asset.
