About the Role

We are hiring a Manager of TPM & Safety to help continue to build our high performing operations and join us in our mission to create healthy spaces for people to live, work and play in a sustainable way. This role will oversee our TPM & Safety programs to increase employee health and safety, and create opportunities for cost savings, product quality, and operational improvements. The manager will work across all teams in the company to ensure our facilities and safety programs meet our goals of operational excellence and employee engagement.

Key Responsibilities

General

• Supervise technicians, technologists, and other engineers in the areas of Safety, TPM and Kaizen.
• Design, develop and conduct time studies and work simplification programs.
• Determine human resource and skill requirements and develop training programs.
• Evaluate or assess industrial facilities to best suit operations targets and KPIs.

Health and Safety

• Establish programs and conduct studies to enhance industrial health and safety or to identify and correct fire and other hazards
• Develop, implement and continuously improve health and safety programs in alignment with regulatory standards and industry best practices.
• Conducts comprehensive risk assessments to identify hazards, evaluate potential risks, and recommend appropriate preventative or corrective measures applying the hierarchy of controls.
• Facilitates safety audits and inspections of facilities, equipment, and processes to ensure compliance with safety standards and identify areas for improvement.
• Build a culture of safety and continuous improvement to help create a safe and positive work environment for all employees.
• Lead and manage the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee (JOHSC), holding monthly meetings, recoding minutes, inspections and ensuring actions are completed.
• Responsible for all WorkSafeBC (WSBC) reporting and communications (incidents / leaves, inspections, compliance reports etc.).
• In conjunction with the People & Culture department, coordinate on safety related employee leaves.
• Establish and deliver safety training programs and facility orientations to new staff.
• Manage first-aid program and training, ensuring regulatory compliance and coverage.
• Establish, monitor and report on safety KPIs and injury reports.

TPM Management

• Plan and design plant layouts and facilities
• Study new machinery and facilities and recommend or select efficient combinations
• Develop flexible or integrated manufacturing systems and procedures
• Conduct studies of the reliability and performance of plant facilities and production or administrative systems
• Develop maintenance standards, schedules and programs
• Responsible for developing and implementation of TPM philosophy in the site.
• Full responsibility for reaching department targets and actively contribute to the fulfilment of sourcing unit and category targets.
• Be an active member of the local management team.
• Clear team leadership. Motivate, train and develop the employee skills.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant internal Oxygen8 policies and applicable local regulations.
• Support the implementation and the maintenance of all management processes systems (SHE-Q Framework Standards).
• Develop, implement and analyze working methodologies in order to improve factory efficiency and reliability, increasing asset utilization and reducing costs.
• Develop through TPM, culture of loss control and prevention, aiming continuous improvement.
• Take an active part in annual cost planning, ensure its compliance and take counteractive measures if necessary.
• Manage all utilities supply to the plant, with focus on service level (no stoppages of production due to utilities supply) and cost management.
• Assure that all TPM implementation activities will be aligned with the policies and procedures defined at the MET (Manufacturing Excellence Team).

Kaizen Program

• Lead Oxygen8’s development of a Kaizen program including 5S and Lean manufacturing methodologies and tools.
• Work closely with Team Leads and Champions to engage them in assisting with Kaizen and Continuous Improvement
• Develop and support Kaizen Multipliers including training, coaching & mentoring team members.
• Define Kaizen projects, aims, and resources to reach targets to eliminate the 8 WASTES.
• Report weekly and monthly on all Kaizen activities, performance results & trends.
• Assist in the development of training materials to provide to the team on LEAN Manufacturing concepts overall.
• Understand, monitor, and update the KPIs selected in each pillar: Growth, Cost, Quality, Delivery and Motivation
• Design 5S audit process, dashboards and scoring program.
• Benchmark and document best practices within Oxygen8.
• Assist the Production Manager & VP Operations in building a culture of Continuous Improvement.
• Develop & lead improvement strategies in accordance with Oxygen8’s strategy & targets.
• Responsible for managing all tool requests, repairs, and overall upkeep.
• Maintain and ensure success of the personal toolbox program.

Experience and Skills

• Degree in a related Engineering discipline, Operations Management, or Safety (or equivalent experience)
• 10+ yrs experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment (minimum of 5 years at the managerial level)
• Extensive experience with facilities operations (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, maintenance management)
• Deep understanding of health & safety regulations
• Experience in setting up and running safety committees and training programs
• Experience with 5S, Kaizen and Continuous Improvement initiatives
• Knowledge in supply chain and planning of both production and materials
• Outstanding communication ability, including negotiation skills and assertiveness
• Exceptional time management and problem-solving skills, ability to multi-task and execute
• Solid computer skills (Excel, ERP experience an advantage)
• Professional English proficiency

Annual Salary:

• $83,000 - $100,000 based on experience.

Location and Schedule:

• On site 40 hours per week at our Vancouver office at 1575 Vernon Drive, Vancouver BC, V6A 3P8
• Monday to Friday 8am to 4:30pm (TBD)
