Job description

Manager of Systems Engineering, Azure Infrastructure

We are currently seeking a Manager of Systems Engineering, Azure Infrastructure, to join our Engineering organization and support a recently acquired team and product in Manchester, England. This role is available to candidates in Canada in either the Eastern or Atlantic time zones, excluding Quebec. If you are local to one of our hubs (Toronto for this role), you will be expected to be in the office a minimum of twice per week on one of our Anchor Days.

At Clio, we strive to be both human and high performing. For our Manager of Systems Engineering, this means someone who can collaborate across the engineering organization to empower product development with the right systems and services to unlock their velocity, foster discussions about core efficiency or performance problems in our applications, and ultimately lead from the front by diagnosing and solving problems in production. The successful candidate will have a mandate to secure and maintain the staging and production Azure environments for an exciting acquisition at Clio.

A day in the life might look like:

  1. Defining the vision and supporting your team in designing and implementing the architecture to power new global capabilities for Clio's customers.
  2. Authoring, reviewing, and shipping infrastructure-as-code in Clio's cloud environments.
  3. Enabling product teams to self-serve issues and reduce resolution times by automating processes and creating observability tooling.
  4. Supervising, mentoring, and collaborating with your team members, and building cross-functional relationships across the engineering organization.
  5. Partnering with Clio's product development teams to ensure all products meet high standards for security, performance, reliability, availability, and change velocity.
  6. Working closely with the recruiting and people teams to actively recruit, hire, and retain top engineering talent to support Clio's growth plans.

You may be a fit for this role if:

  • You have demonstrated success in people leadership within systems engineering, especially in large-scale SaaS products.
  • You possess a strong background managing Microsoft cloud-based solutions with infrastructure as code tools like Pulumi.
  • You have scripting experience with PowerShell and Azure CLI.
  • You are proficient in at least one software development language.
  • You have a broad knowledge base to help your team solve complex technical problems.
  • You can articulate successful projects you've led and lessons learned from failures.
  • You have a proven ability to hire, coach, develop, and retain engineering talent in a fast-paced environment, and are passionate about both your own technical work and your team's growth.
  • You hold strong opinions that are weakly held and foster a culture of open discussion.
  • You believe in providing honest, actionable feedback and encouraging reciprocal communication.
  • You can devise and adapt roadmaps in a constantly changing environment.

What you will find here:

Compensation is a key component of Clio’s Total Rewards Program, designed to ensure fair and competitive pay practices that support our high-performing culture.

Highlights include:

  • Competitive salary with top-tier health, dental, and vision benefits.
  • Hybrid work environment with expectations for local employees (Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Dublin) to be in the office at least 2 days per week on Anchor Days.
  • Flexible time off policy, encouraging 20 days off annually.
  • $2000 annual counseling benefit.
  • RRSP matching and RESP contributions.
  • Clioversary recognition at 3, 5, 7, and 10 years.

Clio is more than a tech company—it's a global leader transforming the legal experience to better the lives of legal professionals and increase access to justice.

Summary:

We are seeking a Manager of Systems Engineering, Azure Infrastructure, to support our Manchester-based team and product. Candidates in Canada (Eastern or Atlantic time zones, excluding Quebec) are eligible. If local (Toronto hub), in-office presence is expected twice weekly.

We value collaboration, innovation, and leadership in our engineering teams, and seek someone who can lead from the front, secure our Azure environments, and contribute to our growth and success.
