Position: Manager of Stakeholder Engagement and Education

Compensation: CAD ($) 100,000-149,999 / Annually

Ontario One Call acts as the communications link between buried infrastructure owners (our members) and individuals planning to dig in Ontario. Established in 2012 under the Ontario Underground Infrastructure Notification System Act, we ensure that anyone in Ontario contacts Ontario One Call before digging. We also handle public education, industry outreach, and compliance.

As a Public Safety Authority, Ontario One Call aims to improve construction, infrastructure, and excavation industries across Ontario. We are a not-for-profit governed by a Board of Directors representing the underground infrastructure and excavation sectors.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer, the Manager will develop and maintain strategic relationships with industry partners and stakeholders, supporting our mission as a public safety authority. This includes leading efforts to engage stakeholders in excavation and damage prevention, such as excavators, utilities, municipalities, regulators, and locate service providers. The role also involves leading educational initiatives to promote safe digging practices across Ontario.

The role manages a team of stakeholder relations and industry education professionals. Travel within Ontario is expected according to an agreed plan. The position is based at our Guelph office (104 Cooper Drive, Guelph, ON) with a hybrid work model.

Primary Responsibilities:
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Manage relationships with stakeholders, government, and regulators.
  • Develop engagement strategies and plans.
  • Lead the Stakeholder Advisory Council Secretariat.
  • Align organizational strategy with stakeholder interests.
  • Organize and facilitate engagement events and forums.
  • Communicate regularly with stakeholders.
  • Gather feedback to inform policies and operations.
  • Develop metrics and reports to evaluate engagement effectiveness.
  • Conduct bi-annual stakeholder trust surveys and improve results.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and issues.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration and transparency.
Education & Training
  • Oversee educational programs, workshops, and seminars.
  • Ensure programs align with organizational strategies.
  • Refine education strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Increase participation in industry events to raise awareness.
  • Measure and report on educational initiatives' effectiveness.
People Management
  • Lead, mentor, and develop team members.
  • Set performance expectations and conduct evaluations.
  • Identify training and development needs.
  • Manage workload and resources.
  • Foster a positive team environment.
  • Recruit and onboard new staff.
  • Address team conflicts and performance issues.
Qualifications:
  • Proven success in building stakeholder partnerships.
  • Strong communication and project management skills.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Negotiation and consensus-building skills.
  • Knowledge of stakeholder engagement and industry education best practices.
  • Leadership, initiative, strategic thinking, and planning skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work under pressure.
  • Bilingual in French and English is an asset.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Communications, Business, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • At least 5 years in stakeholder relations, business development, or similar, including 3-5 years in a management role.
  • Experience with regulatory bodies or government agencies is preferred.
Rewards:
  • Salary ranging from $107,000 to $130,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications, with room for growth.
