Western Health requires a Manager of Patient Services on a permanent basis at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook, NL for the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Reporting to the Regional Director for Medicine and Critical Care with Hospital & Clinical Services, this position provides leadership in planning, organizing, directing and evaluating activities within emergency medicine and intensive care while managing resources effectively. The individual in this position works in an ever-changing environment that focuses on meeting the core mandate of providing emergency medicine/critical care. The incumbent focuses on meeting the needs of the population served, the empowerment and engagement of team members, and the provision of high-quality care in keeping with best practices.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the key skills, behaviours, abilities and knowledge as outlined in the five domains of the LEADS in a Caring Environment framework:

Qualifications:

A baccalaureate prepared graduate of a health care related discipline with registration through a provincial regulatory body. Five (5) years’ experience as a registered health care provider is required. A minimum of two (2) years management experience and one (1) year leadership experience within the last five (5) years is also required. Candidates must have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in an Acute Care setting.

The successful candidate will demonstrate critical thinking, effective problem solving and decision-making as well as strong communication skills. The candidate must work independently in a strong leadership role and be able to lead teams and work effectively within an interdisciplinary team environment to support program planning. The candidate must possess computer skills including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel databases and spreadsheets.

In the event no suitable candidate is found with the above noted qualifications, consideration may be given to applicants who do not currently possess a Bachelor’s Degree, provided they are willing to complete the same within five years of appointment to the position. In this case, the successful applicant must be prepared to demonstrate proof of registration/enrollment to an appropriate degree program within the first year of appointment to the position. Furthermore, the successful applicant is required to provide annual updates based on the progress of each semester of the program.
