Base pay range

CA$75,000.00 / yr - CA$85,000.00 / yr

Title : Manager of Fund Development & Communications

Position Type : Full-Time, Permanent

Hours : 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday (occasional after hour flexibility is required)

How We Do It

Sistering operates on a trauma-informed and relationship-based model and our harm reduction philosophy is a core element of all the work we do : we are here to respond to participants’ needs, where they are at, in the moment, to support participants to learn how to reduce harm and / or increase safety. In addition, we recognize that their lives have meaning and value.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager of Fund Development and Communications is a key member of the management team, aligning fund development, communications, and volunteer engagement activities with the agency’s strategic priorities. The Manager is a results-oriented individual with strong management skills and a hands-on approach to fundraising and communications.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the fundraising process—from research and prospecting to developing and submitting high-quality funding applications and relevant materials to individual and institutional donors / resource providers at local, regional, and national levels. This includes budgeting, evaluation, and reporting;
  • Research, identify, assess, and develop new fundraising opportunities and initiatives; ensure background information on potential corporate, foundation, and individual donors is completed and recorded;
  • Write persuasive and imaginative proposals and grants, and track responses associated with individuals, foundations, and corporations;
  • Manage individual giving programs, including direct mail, monthly giving, major gifts, and third-party events;
  • Manage portfolio of current donors and prospects in CanadaHelps;
  • Develop and oversee creation of reports in CanadaHelps;
  • Ensure relevant databases and platforms (e.g., CanadaHelps, EFT, IATS) are kept accurate and current;
  • Contribute to development of promotional material and fundraising tools across multimedia platforms;
  • Oversee all fundraising events (e.g. : Food for Thought, Walks);
  • Oversee the In-Kind donations program and ensure items are procured as needed for service programs;
  • Experience using data to inform strategy and measure fundraising performance, donor retention, and ROI;
  • Collaborate with programs and finance teams to develop compelling impact reports and narratives for funders and stakeholders;
  • Working knowledge of CRA charitable receipting and donor recognition guidelines;
  • Stay informed of not-for-profit trends in the marketplace

Relationship Management

  • Manage and steward relationships with potential, current and past donors and partners, including building tours, pamphlets, presentations and other engagement tools;
  • Effectively recognize and steward donors; establish an acquisition plan to cultivate existing and pursue new donors;
  • In partnership with the Executive Director, engage Board and other volunteers in fundraising activities;
  • Coordinate reporting in conjunction with Finance and Service Delivery teams;
  • Respond to donor-based complaints and escalated issues

Communication

  • Develop a cohesive communications strategy and ensure quality control of all external-facing information (social media, donor newsletters, etc.);
  • Oversee public relations and manage Sistering’s public image;
  • Support branding, storytelling, and content development aligned with fundraising and organizational prioritiesl;
  • Experience with digital fundraising platforms and integrated communications tools (e.g., email campaigns, social media ads, website content management, and analytics tools);
  • Ensure fund development and communications strategies are well integrated

Volunteer And Community Engagement

  • Oversee volunteer engagement strategy and support volunteer recruitment, orientation, and recognition activities;
  • Provide guidance to staff coordinating event-based and program-based volunteer opportunities;
  • Liaise with businesses and community partners to secure monetary and in-kind donations.

Leadership And Supervision

  • Provide leadership and supervision to the Fund Development team;
  • Manage the annual department budget and monitor fund development-related costs;
  • Contribute to organizational strategic planning and goal-setting as part of the senior leadership team;
  • Inform the Executive Director in a timely manner of any issues requiring attention

Qualifications

Other Duties as Assigned

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in fund development in the not-for-profit sector with a track record of significant success;
  • Proven experience developing persuasive fundraising and grant proposals, and delivering presentations to targeted funders, foundations, or institutional donors;
  • Strong knowledge of developing, managing, and implementing corporate fundraising strategies and work plans;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders;
  • Strong financial acumen and strategic thinking, with excellent problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking and proposal writing;
  • Strong event management and project management skills with the ability to multi-task;
  • Experience in managing and developing people and teams;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), CanadaHelps, or other fundraising databases;
  • Demonstrated commitment to anti-oppression, equity, and inclusion, with an ability to apply these principles in fundraising and community engagement;
  • Able to work flexible hours as needed;
  • Major Gift experience considered an asset

Compensation

  • 75,000 - $85,000 annually

Working Conditions

This position works in the office and community. Sistering is a 24 / 7 operation, fast paced, intense environment.
