How You Will Make an Impact

Reporting to the Controller, the Manager of Finance demonstrates responsibility and enhances the dignity and quality of life of our clients, visitors and staff by ensuring the adherence to internal control processes, the reliability and completeness of accounting and management information on a timely basis, the compliance with laws and regulations, and the safeguarding of assets that will optimize the financial resources available to enhance the services available to clients.

Through responsible leadership and effective role modelling, the Manager of Finance is responsible for the demonstration of the Mission, Vision and Values at work within the Finance department and Good Shepherd.

  • Champion the integration of the Mission, Vision, and Values of Good Shepherd within an anti-racism / anti-oppression framework to model exemplary organizational behaviors.
  • Serve as a pivotal communication hub for both internal and external stakeholders, facilitating critical information flow and engagement.
  • Conduct sophisticated risk analyses of daily financial activities and deliver strategic reports to executive management.
  • Uphold the strictest standards of confidentiality to protect sensitive information across all organizational levels.
  • Foster robust employee relations to maintain a motivated and productive workforce.
  • Lead collaborative efforts in staff recruitment to align talent acquisition with organizational goals.
  • Design and implement comprehensive staff training programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Drive staff performance to achieve and exceed organizational standards through effective leadership and motivation techniques.
  • Provide mentorship to nurture professional growth and development among staff members.
  • Conduct thorough annual staff performance evaluations and recommend personnel actions including promotions, disciplinary measures, or terminations.
  • Organize and preside over monthly staff meetings to ensure cohesive team operations and communication.
  • Innovate and enhance accounting processes and procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Adhere to and ensure compliance with established timelines for all accounting processes, including internal and external reporting.
  • Analyze financial reports from internal and external sources, recommending actionable strategies to stakeholders.
  • Promptly gather and analyze required statistical data to support comprehensive internal or external reporting.
  • Review and finalize bank reconciliations monthly to ensure financial accuracy and accountability. Monitor daily, monthly, and annual banking activities, forecasting cash flow needs and reporting on significant financial
  • Observe all Good Shepherd health and safety rules and work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations.

What You'll Bring to Our Team

  • Several years' supervisory work experience in financial disciplines with demonstrated career progression
  • CPA Designation in good standing or enrolled / working towards CPA.
  • Maintains active status and fulfills ongoing educational requirements to uphold CPA designation.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt in a fast paced and changing work environment using critical thinking skills.
  • Creativity and flexibility in achieving desired outcomes for the organization's benefit i.e. maximize the organization's revenue or achieving the desired profitability targets for the year.
  • Hospitable in dealings with clients / public / volunteers / staff, and other key stakeholders.
  • Available and responsive to the needs of others, demonstrating a respectful and compassionate demeanor.
