Position at Dumas: Manager of Estimating Services

Dumas is a leading full-service mining contractor operating in the Americas. The company’s client list includes some of the world’s largest and most respected mining companies. Dumas is the contractor of choice for the most technically challenging underground projects, including mine construction, full-scale mine development, production mining, mine services, and engineering.

Dumas is looking for a detail-oriented tax specialist responsible for tax-related tasks. Responsibilities include preparing all tax compliance, assisting in audits, and responding to tax correspondence. The ideal candidate should be up-to-date with the latest accounting technologies, have an understanding of big data systems, and possess good communication skills. Ultimately, a top-notch tax specialist should have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective time management skills.

Position Title: Manager of Estimating Services

Division: Dumas Contracting Ltd.

Department: Corporate

Location: Toronto or Timmins Office

Reports to: Senior Vice-President, Project Services & Corporate Development

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Manage and mentor the estimating team.
  2. Develop group resourcing strategies to meet business needs.
  3. Manage estimating proposals and tender processes to meet project objectives within deadlines.
  4. Review drawings, designs, specifications, and contractual documentation for business opportunities.
  5. Prepare comprehensive cost estimates and schedules for tenders and engineering studies.
  6. Collaborate with Engineering and external suppliers for material and equipment pricing.
  7. Ensure bids are competitive and provide desired returns.
  8. Suggest and analyze alternative contract forms for tenders.
  9. Stay informed on market values of manpower, materials, and equipment.
  10. Work collaboratively across departments to support project success during tendering.
  11. Monitor and report on estimated vs. actual project costs.
  12. Implement continuous improvement initiatives for operational proposals.
  13. Provide technical support for existing projects, including project management and reporting.
  14. Travel as needed for site visits and information gathering, possibly including international assignments.

Technical Competencies:

  • Educational background in business, technical college, or engineering.
  • Degree in communication, business, or related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and desktop publishing software.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in tendering/proposal coordination in contracting.
  • Familiarity with CRM, ERP, and BI software.
  • Strong written communication and editing skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate technical aspects of underground mining contracting.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Capable of managing multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Experience in technical report writing, preferably in mining or construction.
