Reporting to the Director Policy, Planning & Communications (Director), the Manager of Communications (Manager) is responsible for the Communications Section of the Policy Planning and Communications Division (PPC) of the Government of Nunavut’s (GN) Department of Community Services (CS). As a member of the PPC management team, the Manager is responsible for managing the development and implementation of internal and external CS communications services.

The Manager will develop, implement, review and coordinate all media relations that include responding to media inquiries, building relationships, develop press releases and media information packages. You must be able to provide strategic advice, assistance and support that ensures the Languages Commissioner and the Director’s communication approaches are coordinated and are of the highest standard.

This position manages the production and distribution of all publications as required. The Manager leads the planning and coordination of special events and meetings. This position provides leadership and guidance to staff in writing, editing, publication and production of reports, social media, and others.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized undergraduate degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or other Social Science, along with a minimum of three (3) years of related work experience. One (1) year work experience in communications or policy is required. One (1) year of experience in public sector communications and (one) 1-year supervisory experience are also required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in Inuktitut would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
